Jaden Smith Dismisses Sofia Richie Dating Rumors Once and For All: ‘We’re Just Homies’
Let’s not complicate things. Jaden Smith dismissed dating rumors about him and Sofia Richie after the exes enjoyed a PDA-filled Labor Day weekend together.
“You know, I actually don’t look at the internet, so I didn’t see that,” the 22-year-old told host Ryan Seacrest about the online buzz while appearing on iHeartRadio’s On-Air With Ryan Seacrest on Friday, September 11. “Me and Sofia have been friends for like 10 years.”
The Pursuit of Happiness star maintained the PDA on the beach was completely platonic. “We’ve been going to the beach pretty consistently for 10 years too,” the actor noted. “Yeah, we’re just homies and we love each other and it was fun.”
On September 5, the model, 22, and the singer were spotted getting cozy on a beach in Malibu while rocking matching pink bathing suits. A few hours later, the pair were spotted doing dinner with former Hannah Montana actor Moisés Arias and his girlfriend at Nobu in Malibu.
Jaden and Sofia dated briefly when they were teenagers in 2012 but the relationship fizzled out by early 2013.
Even if the former flames decided to date again, it most likely won’t put a damper on their mutual friendships with Kylie Jenner. Jaden and the makeup mogul previously dated for nearly a year in 2013 — after his split from Sofia. The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star even took Will Smith‘s son to sister Kim Kardashian and Kanye West‘s wedding as her date in May 2014. However, the brunette beauty moved on with Tyga shortly after.
The former flames have stayed on good terms. “Jaden will always love Kylie and Kylie will always have a love for Jaden,” an insider told E! News in November 2015 after Kylie and Tyga, 30, split for the first time. “They grew up together and were each other’s first loves.”
Sofia and the mama of one have also been friends for years — even before she was dating Scott Disick, Ky’s “brother-in-law.” Sofia and the Flip It Like Disick star, 37, started dating in September 2017. The longtime loves called it quits in late May, a month after Scott checked himself into a Colorado rehab facility to work on unresolved emotional trauma related to the sudden deaths of his parents in 2013 and 2014.
The couple reunited at a 4th of July party in Malibu — but their reconciliation was short-lived and the couple split for good in mid-August. “They were very happy together but Sofia could not handle his issues,” an insider exclusively explained to Life & Style just after their second breakup. “They were never cut out for the long term because he has too much baggage and has trouble opening up to anyone besides [ex] Kourtney [Kardashian].”
Shortly after Sofia and Jaden were spotted getting hot and heavy, Scott unfollowed Sofia on Instagram.
