Ryan Reynolds Confirms Taylor Swift Is His Daughters’ Godmother After She Called Him a ‘Sperm Donor’
Lucky kids! Ryan Reynolds confirmed pal Taylor Swift is the godmother to his three daughters he shares with Blake Lively, after the singer make a snarky comment about him.
“Shout out to Wade Wilson, aka my godkids’ sperm donor!” the “Down Bad” songstress, 34, wrote in July 25 Instagram Story when cheering on Ryan’s new movie Deadpool and Wolverine.
“Yeah, that is kind of it. She is the godparent to my daughters,” Ryan, 48, told Deadline in a video the site shared on Wednesday, November 13. The Canada native and Blake, 37, share three daughters — James, Inez and Betty — as well as son Olin, who was born in February 2023.
The Proposal star added about Taylor’s epic “sperm donor” post, “I’m going to need that on my gravestone, actually.”
It wasn’t lost on Ryan how much a shout-out from the pop superstar meant to him as additional promotion for his movie, saying about her praise of the film, “That was very sweet. Not just sweet, that was, like, you could probably quantify a box office based on Taylor just doing something like that.”
“Over the past few years, I have watched one of my best friends on this planet pour every bit of his heart, soul, sweat, time energy, jokes, pain, joy, rebellion, darkness, and magic into this film,” Taylor wrote in her Story, seemingly referring to Ryan. “He’s created the best work of his life, and this film feels like an actual joy portal, a wild escape from reality, and an abs sandwich. I don’t know how he did it.”
“But that’s that just Hugh for you!” the Grammy winner joked, referring to Ryan’s costar, Hugh Jackman. Taylor then gave her props to Ryan being Blake’s “sperm donor.”
Blake returned the love to her BFF in her own Instagram Story, writing, “Thank you, @taylorswift, for honoring my guy(s). I couldn’t have said it better myself — which is unsurprising, given that I have 14 fewer Grammys and not a single sold-out stadium world tour.”
Taylor and Blake became fast friends in 2015, shortly after the Gossip Girl alum gave birth to James in December 2014. The actress let the world know she was a major Swiftie after some fans misinterpreted the caption of a L’Oréal campaign post she shared referencing Taylor’s celeb-filled “Bad Blood” music video.

Blake and Ryan went on to welcome Inez in September 2016 and Betty in October 2019.
Not only did Taylor reveal she was the godparent to the girls, but the Pennsylvania native also revealed Betty’s name to the world when she dropped her album Folklore in July 2020. Ryan and Blake had previously kept their youngest daughter’s name under wraps.
The song “Betty” included the lyrics, “Betty, I know where it all went wrong,” “You heard the rumors from Inez” and “She said ‘James, get in, let’s drive.'”
After fans deduced the names came from Blake and Ryan’s daughters, Taylor confirmed she used the kids’ monikers for characters she wrote and sang about.
“Everyone makes mistakes, everybody really messes up sometimes. This is a song that I wrote from the perspective of a 17-year-old boy. And I’ve always loved that in music you can kind of slip into different identifies and you can sing from other people’s perspectives, and that’s what I did in this one,” Taylor explained about the nature of the tune in a radio interview posted to X on August 5, 2020.
Without directly naming Blake, Taylor revealed, “I named all the characters in this story after my friend’s kids, and I hope you like it!”
