Sophie Turner Says Her ‘Life Was on Pause’ Amid Joe Jonas Divorce: ‘Incredibly Sad’

Sophie Turner looked back on her divorce from ex-husband Joe Jonas, admitting that her life was put on hold during the extremely emotional time.

“I’m going through a legal process right now where I can’t really say much, but it was incredibly sad. We had a beautiful relationship, and it was hard,” Sophie, 28, told Harper’s Bazaar about her past marriage with Joe, 35, in an interview published Wednesday, October 30.

However, she added that she was “so happy to be back” in England after she relocated following the split. “It felt as if my life was on pause until I returned to England,” the Game of Thrones alum explained. “I just never really feel like myself when I’m not in London, with my friends and family.”

“I was away for so long — six years — and it was when my friends were getting engaged, and when I got pregnant,” Sophie continued about the milestones she missed out on experiencing with her loved ones after she moved to the United States. “I went for dinner with someone the other day, and she said, ‘I never got to touch your belly.’ We didn’t have those key experiences with each other.”

She also admitted that she was homesick while living in the U.S. “Every city we ended up in, the first thing I’d do was find a British shop and stock up on a month’s worth of chocolate,” she said, adding that several tragedies that happened in the states felt like they “just kind of piled on.”

Joe filed for divorce from Sophie after four years of marriage in September 2023. They broke their silence regarding the split by issuing a joint statement on September 6, 2023. “After four wonderful years of marriage we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage,” the exes – who tied the knot in 2019 – said at the time. “There are many speculative narratives as to why but, truly this is a united decision and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children.”

While their split initially seemed amicable, Joe and Sophie quickly made headlines for their custody battle over daughters Willa, 4, and Delphine, 2. One year after the paperwork was submitted, they finalized their divorce in September.

Joe and Sophie have chosen to keep their kids out of the spotlight, though she previously opened up about being apart from them when they were in the U.S. and she was in the U.K. filming Joan as rumors swirled about their split in the media.

“It hurt because I really do completely torture myself over every move I make as a mother — mom guilt is so real!” she told British Vogue. “I just kept having to say to myself, ‘None of this is true. You are a good mum and you’ve never been a partier.’”

Sophie has kept quiet about her divorce from Joe, though an insider previously told Life & Style that she was happy with the outcome. “Joe went into this divorce with a lot of swagger,” the source exclusively dished in September. “He was very loud about how he was going to come out on top. But word is, things have gone the other way and Sophie has gotten everything she thought was fair and more.”
