While Hannah Brown‘s season of The Bachelorette is ramping down, Bachelor Nation is getting anxious to see who will be named as the next lead on The Bachelor. One standout contestant this past season was Mike Johnson, and fans keeping their fingers crossed for him to take over. The Alabama beauty had many eligible men vying for her heart, but Mike was kind, charismatic and definitely seemed genuine about finding love. What are his chances of becoming season 24’s leading man? Here’s what we know!

First, let us give you some background. Mike is an Air Force veteran from San Antonio, Texas, who currently works as a portfolio manager. At 31, he stood out as one of the oldest contestants this season and let his maturity shine. His quiet confidence and bright smile quickly caught the attention of Hannah and all the fans watching at home, including Demi Lovato.

Needless to say, fans are here for it. “I want this. We want this. AMERICA WANTS THIS! AND NEEDS THIS! #MikeForBachelor We need a genuine man to be the next Bachelor … and who doesn’t love Mike??” one diehard viewer wrote on Twitter. Someone else added, “If they don’t announce Mike as the next Bachelor [tonight] I’m legitimately going to be angry and annoyed. we’ve had our fair share of mediocre white men over the years. We need DIVERSITY and someone who isn’t trash!!”

Mike has one very powerful fan in show host Chris Harrison. “Of course he’s a contender [for Bachelor],” the host told People in an interview published on July 18. “How could he not be a contender with that smile? He’s one of my favorite people we’ve ever had on the show … I consider him a really good friend.” Chris also added, “He’s just a sweet guy … He gives the best hugs, the best smiles and the best advice. He’s just a really good man and yeah, of course he’s a contender.”

Mike will be appearing on the Men Tell All special airing on July 22 so time will tell what’s next for this fan favorite.
