Where It all Began

There is a Bachelorette reunion special in the works scheduled to premiere on May 6. The ladies have been doing tons of fun interviews, including this word association game. This is when Kaitlyn, 33, quipped that Nick, 38, didn’t quite make the cut as being there for the “right reasons.”

Not Going to Stand for That

Nick definitely didn’t appreciate Kaitlyn’s sense of humor or being called out for his intentions of why he came on the show.

“[Kaitlyn Bristowe] DMs me two weeks into filming … asks me to show up. Picks someone else,” the podcast host began his response in the comment section of the Instagram video.

He continued, “Makes jokes post-show at my expense in national interviews to cover own ass. 3 years later … same ole.” Our eyes are still burning from the savagery. Some fans rallied to Kaitlyn’s defense while others praised Nick’s comeback.

Some Background

Nick competed for the Canadian’s heart during season 11 of The Bachelorette and ended up being the runner-up. Kaitlyn opted to get engaged to Shawn Booth during the finale. The two split this past October after three years together.

Unexpected

It was a big twist when Nick showed up four weeks into the show and quickly charmed his way into the leading lady’s heart.

Not What It Seemed

However, the two actually sparked up a flirtation before filming began. During The Viall Files, the reality stud dished that he started messaging Kaitlyn after she appeared on Chris Soules‘ season of The Bachelor in 2015. “That’s how the seal was broken,” he said.

Getting Serious

He divulged that the two talked “every day, all day” before it was announced that she would be starring in her own season. “I remember when she found out [that there was going to be two Bachelorettes on her season] she was really upset,” Nick explained. Kaitlyn and Britt Nilsson both appeared on night one and it was up to the contestants to decide who would finish out their journey to find love.

Ah, Memories

He continued the story, “At that point, she was just kind of a friend and we were kind of going down that path of flirting and talking ridiculous things and then that kind of snowballed when she went on [Jimmy] Kimmel. I remember her texting me and saying, ‘Hey, make sure you watch.’ She was like, ‘I’ll throw you signals. I’m going to keep touching my lip with my fingers.’ She did that!”

A Surprising Romance

It turns out, the two started falling for each other, according to Nick. He claimed, “That night, she snuck and called me from her hotel room and we had our goodbye conversation. We were both like, ‘I feel like saying something crazy, but I’m not going to say it.’ It was this puppy love thing.”

Plan B

Nick confessed, “The big X fact was, there’s two Bachelorettes. I remember saying to her, ‘I’m going to be honest, I hope you don’t get picked.’ The thought was, if you don’t get picked, you’re going to fly to Chicago and come visit me. It was a conversation.”

Fate or Force?

So, how did Nick score his way onto another season? He insisted that he jokingly said something to the producers who then flew him out to New York. The software salesman admitted that he was “pretty confident” that the dancer would ask him to stay if he made a guest appearance. Before that could happen, he got a message on Twitter that read, “It’s Kaitlyn, call me. Here’s the number.”

An Honest Conversation

He recalled the conversation he had with the blonde beauty, who did not know he was in New York at the time. “She’s talking to me and she’s like, ‘It’s going really well and the guys are really nice but, like I miss you and I feel like it’s different from what we had.'”

Supposed to Turn Out Different

Nick maintained that the whole arrangement was a done deal. He continued, “We talked all night long. She was like, ‘Just come.’ And I said, ‘Well, what would you do if I come?’ She said, ‘I’ll just fake it with the rest.'” He added that she did admit to having a “connection” with one guy who (surprise) turned out to be her ex.

Spicy

Nick and Kaitlyn did have chemistry during the season and she even snuck him into her hotel room. “It was a lot of fun. We did not have sex,” the reality personality confirmed.

No Saltiness?

At the time of the podcast, Nick declared that he was relieved about the way things worked out. “She did me a huge favor in picking Shawn … They clearly were a good match. They didn’t work out. They dated for three years. I don’t think Kaitlyn and I would’ve ever come close to that,” he said. Hmmm … his recent comment hints otherwise.

He was sure to note, “My biggest takeaway in my story with Kaitlyn, sometimes people say things in the moment and we shouldn’t get caught up in those moments.”

He’s Been Through the Ringer

Nick is no stranger to the franchise. Before competing for Kaitlyn’s heart, he first appeared on Andi Dorfman‘s season. He also finished as runner-up during season 10 behind Josh Murray. Then, he fell for Jen Saviano on season 3 of Bachelor in Paradise but they split during week 6. Finally, he was the lead of his own season of The Bachelor in 2017 where he got engaged to Vanessa Grimaldi. They broke up five months later.

Staying Away

Not so surprisingly, Nick has removed himself from the franchise’s dating pool. “I don’t really date in Bachelor Nation anymore. I stay away from it,” he acknowledged exclusively to Life & Style during The Betchelor Live Show and Bachelor Finale Viewing Party, in partnership with Ship at Slate NY. As for Kaitlyn, she’s found a brighter future with show alum Jason Tartick.
