Bah, humbug! In a break from royal tradition, Queen Elizabeth II recently invited Meghan Markle’s mother, Doria Ragland, to celebrate Christmas at Sandringham House — and Kate Middleton was livid about it. Although she’s been married to Prince William for seven years, “Kate’s parents have never been asked to spend the holidays with the queen,” a palace insider revealed to Life & Style magazine, on newsstands now. “Instead, she and William have been forced to split their time between the Middletons and the royals, shuffling their children from household to household.”

The Duchess of Cambridge’s folks, Carole and Michael Middleton, do join the queen, 92, at church for Christmas morning service, before retreating to nearby Anmer Hall for lunch with Kate and William, both 36, and their kids, Prince George, 5, Princess Charlotte, 3, and six-month-old Prince Louis. “Kate accused the queen of giving Meghan special treatment and sees this as a huge snub to her side of the family,” said the palace insider, alluding to the monarch’s close bond with the pregnant Duchess of Sussex, 37. “She understands that most of Meghan’s family is estranged from her, and that this was a kind gesture, but it still hasn’t stopped her from thinking that Prince Harry’s wife has got it easy!”

The special treatment seems to have inflamed an already-brewing feud between the two royal women, despite the fact that Elizabeth has gone out of her way to make the women feel equal, a source explained to In Touch. She’s gifted them both with her cherished jewelry. She’s made sure to spend alone time with each of them. She bought them both homes as wedding gifts. And yet, they still find things to be bitter about. It’s getting so bad that the queen thinks desperate measures need to be taken.

That’s right, she wants to stage an intervention. “She said something had to be done,” another insider told In Touch. “She wants to resolve the issue once and for all. The last thing the queen wants is a full-blown crisis at the palace.” Unfortunately, it sounds like that’s what this holiday season is about to become.
