Dad to the rescue! After six months of not knowing what exactly went on behind the scenes of the royal wedding, we now have knowledge of how Prince Charles ended up walking Meghan Markle down the aisle. Prince Harry opened up about his father’s grand gesture recently, and it’s the sweetest thing ever.

In Prince, Son and Heir: Charles at 70, a new BBC documentary, Harry revealed that he asked his father if he could accompany his now-pregnant wife down the aisle after her own father canceled last minute. Prince Charles didn’t hesitate to help, and without his contribution who knows how the wedding of the year would’ve turned out!

“I asked him to, and I think he knew it was coming and he immediately said, ‘Yes, of course, I’ll do whatever Meghan needs and I’m here to support you.’ For him, that’s a fantastic opportunity to step up and be that support, and you know he’s our father so of course he’s gonna be there for us,” confessed Harry.

While family should always be there for each other, that doesn’t mean gratitude shouldn’t be expressed, at least that’s how the Duke of Sussex feels, which is why he was seen saying “Thank you, Pa” as his dad handed Meghan over to him.

“You’ve gotta say thank you,” he said. “Just because he’s my father that doesn’t mean I can just sort of go, ‘Okay, that’s all, I’ll take it from here.’ Err, no, that is what I wanted to say but erm… and I was very grateful for him to be able to do that.” Brb, crying!

It’s a good thing the Prince of Wales came in clutch because now he and Meghan share a special bond. The two have reportedly become close over their mutual dysfunctional family dynamic. According to a source who spoke to the Mail on Sunday, “because there’s been bad behavior that’s caused problems in his family, Charles understands how difficult it must be for Meghan. And it has endeared her to him even more.” Prince Charles for the win!
