When Samantha Markle sent a public Christmas card calling for a family truce amid drama between her sister, Meghan Markle, and their father, Thomas Markle, she swore her efforts were to end the bitter feud that has been haunting their family. Her sisterly attempts at reconciliation, however, seem to have been misunderstood. According to the Sunday Times, Meghan’s estranged half-sister is said to be on a “fixated persons list” by the police royalty and specialist protection unit, because of the “reputational risk” that she poses to the royal family. Yikes.

The Duchess’ personal protection officers are said to have briefed detectives from Scotland Yard’s Fixated Threat Assessment Center, aka FTAC, about the potential public embarrassment in store for the royals should Samantha try her hand at another truce.

The FTAC’s website defines a “fixated persons” as “those who have an obsessional preoccupation (often delusional) with a person or a perceived grievance, which they pursue to an irrational degree,” according to the Sunday Times.

A source with Scotland Yard summed up the situation quite well: “You can’t protect someone like the Duchess of Sussex without knowing the background of her family. But someone like Samantha presents a risk rather than a threat. She is not committing criminal offenses, but she is causing concerns for the royal family. There is big potential for some major embarrassment for the royals. Samantha could make a scene and create headlines with her actions — and let’s face it she’s kind of already done that.”

Samantha and Meghan have had a long-standing feud since the duchess rose to her position in the British monarchy. She is said to be working on a memoir titled In the Shadows of the Duchess, and has made multiple attacks on Meghan since her engagement to Prince Harry was announced last year, including calling her a “Duch-ass” on Twitter.
