Well, we certainly did see this coming! On Oct. 1, Meghan Markle‘s estranged half-sister, Samantha Markle, appeared on Channel 5 in the UK to issue a public apology to the newly minted Duchess of Sussex. For those of you who are unaware, the 53-year-old has publically defaced her sibling and the royal family on a number of occasions in the press. However, it appears that she’s ready to bury the hatchet.

“I’ve always wanted to see London, but really I wanted to make the trip and sort of speak the wishes and thoughts and sentiments of my father, and hopefully get a message to my sister,” Samantha explained of her trip overseas. “Things aren’t really what they seem. There’s so much misperception. Hopefully, we could clear up the record and move forward with peaceful resolve.” Watch the rest of her interview below!

At this time, Meghan has yet to formally comment on her sister’s presence in London — and it doesn’t seem as if she will. “I was hoping maybe we would have the chance to speak — that she would know I was here. But I don’t think that’s going to happen.”

Samantha went on to explain what she believes to be the root cause of the familial strife. “I think everybody was hurt at not being included or invited to the wedding,” she began. “But I felt as though it could have all been nipped in the bud had everyone been included and we all agreed to move forward with positive resolve, and the hurt feelings wouldn’t have snowballed.” Then, as if speaking to Meghan directly, she said, “Believe it or not, it doesn’t mean we love you any less.”

Last, but not least, Samantha apologized to her sister, saying, “I wish things could be different.” Hmmm, considering the fact that Samantha recently referred to Meghan as a “royal ducha–,” it’s unlikely that the former Suits actress is as willing to let bygones be bygones — but if nothing else, a public apology was most definitely overdue.
