Follow your heart! Miley Cyrus opened up about being “queer” and what that means for her marriage to Liam Hemsworth. The songstress recently tied the knot with her longtime beau but not because they wanted to fall into old-school traditions. The duo is redefining one way to have a modern-day relationship. Watch the video above to see what she said and don’t forget to subscribe to our YouTube Channel.

The Bangerz artist has never tried to hide her openness to dating men and women. While she and The Hunger Games actor, 29, were broken up, she had a short fling with model Stella Maxwell and Patrick Schwarzenegger. Both fizzled out before she reunited with her now-hubby.

However, she still is very connected to her ties with the LGBTQ community. “A big part of my pride and my identity is being a queer person. What I preach is: People fall in love with people, not gender, not looks, not whatever,” she told Vanity Fair.

Overall, her marriage goes much deeper than labels. “What I’m in love with exists on almost a spiritual level. It has nothing to do with sexuality. Relationships and partnerships in a new generation — I don’t think they have so much to do with sexuality or gender. Sex is actually a small part, and gender is a very small, almost irrelevant part of relationships.”

It turns out, self-reflection has been a fun ride for the “Wrecking Ball” songbird. “I’ve been inspired by redefining again what a relationship in this generation looks like. Sexuality and gender identity are completely separate from partnership,” she wrote in a note she shared with the outlet.

She acknowledged many of her wedding day decisions that could be interpreted as traditional. She admitted, “I wore a dress on my wedding day because I felt like it, I straightened my hair because I felt like it, but that doesn’t make me become some instantly ‘polite hetero lady.’ (P.S.: Straight women are badass, too.)”

In the end, it’s all about love. “My relationship is very special to me, it is my home. I feel less misplaced when we are in the same room, no matter where that is, but just because something changes in my relationship doesn’t mean something has to drastically change in my individuality,” she gushed.

Love you, Miley!
