Former ‘Bachelorette’ Rachel Lindsay Says Mike Johnson Should ‘100 Percent’ Be the Next ‘Bachelor’
He’s got her vote! Former Bachelorette star Rachel Lindsay rallied behind Mike Johnson, a contestant from Hannah Brown‘s season, to be the next lead on The Bachelor. The stud definitely captured the hearts of Bachelor Nation with his confidence, giant smile and sweet demeanor. While speaking exclusively with Life & Style, the former lawyer couldn’t help but call out the fact that even A-listers want to get with him.
“Mike Johnson should be the Bachelor 100 percent. I mean, I have my own reasons, but … I’m like, ‘Demi Lovato is legitimately trying to shoot her shot with him.’ So, I mean, I think that’s enough said,” the 34-year-old confessed at a private home in Southampton, New York while sharing her and fiancé Bryan Abasolo‘s wedding registry on The Knot Registry.
The starlet even suggested that the San Antonio native skip the middleman to find love. “You have a superstar, a talented superstar. I mean if I were Mike, I would just go that route. Look at Wells [Adams] and Sarah Hyland — I mean, they’re engaged,” Rachel continued. The lawyer joked that dating the pop star would be a valid excuse for passing on the reality show. “Well I want him to be the Bachelor but my gosh if you tell me, ‘I’m not going to be the Bachelor because I’m dating Demi Lovato,’ I’m not mad,” she admitted.
If Mike were to be chosen, he would be the first military veteran and African American leading man on The Bachelor, an inclusive move that Rachel definitely thinks the franchise should take. “He would be great! When is the last time you’ve seen anyone who’s been an African American male really be able to say they can be the lead? You haven’t yet, and there’s been 20+ seasons, so when is this going to happen again?”
Although the bride-to-be acknowledged that she “doesn’t have a say” in the final choice, she promises “I at least try.” She explained, “It doesn’t mean that I’m not giving my opinion. I have constantly preached to producers, to executives, ‘This is who you need and let me tell you why.'”
