Rooney Mara and Joaquin Phoenix 'Excitedly Preparing' for Baby No. 1

It takes a village. Pregnant Rooney Mara and her fiancé, Joaquin Phoenix, “are excitedly preparing” for the arrival of their first child, a source exclusively tells Life & Style. “While Rooney has been reading up on motherhood, she and Joaquin will raise the baby their way.”

Both the Social Network actress, 35, and Academy Award winner, 45, have been practicing veganism for many years and “won’t even allow meat into their house,” adds the insider. “The baby will be raised on a healthy vegan diet, rich in protein, omega 3, calcium and vitamin B12 to ensure their little one gets all the nutrients needed.”

Rooney and Joaquin, who quietly got engaged in July 2019 after making their public debut at the Cannes Film Festival in 2017, have “already decorated the nursery,” the source says. “It’s simple, pretty and contains all the essentials. Everything in the nursery is eco-friendly and organic. It’s homely and cute, but not your typical over-the-top Hollywood nursery.”

The A-list couple plans “to have the baby at home” and Rooney “is considering a water birth with Joaquin by her side,” notes the insider. “Joaquin is counting down the days until the baby is born. He’s so excited about becoming a dad, and isn’t the type of guy who will leave Rooney to do all the work — they’ll split baby duty 50/50.”

According to a previous source, it’s unlikely Joaquin and the New York native, whose family owns the New York Giants, will be “divulging many details” about their child, including the name or sex. “They’re super private.”

Ahead of the pregnancy, Rooney and the Joker actor were in the process of planning an intimate wedding. With a baby on the way, things have changed. “I wouldn’t be surprised if they have a small ceremony ASAP,” the insider revealed. “Maybe even just the two of them.”

Since meeting on the set of Her in 2012, Rooney and Joaquin have built a special bond. “They are such unique individuals,” the source expressed. “They work together in a weird way.”
