As Gossip Girl was gasping her last breath (and spouting off some nonsensical metaphor, probably) it was announced that Mexico was getting Gossip Girl Acapulco, a treat for all of us who barely passed Spanish II. But if you still can't get enough of Gossip Girl, get this: there's more than one global remake out there. And even though we don't understand Thai or Turkish too well, rest assured that drama is an international language. And these versions are just as addicting.
Gossip Girl Acapulco and Gossip Girl Thailand are pretty faithful to the original Gossip Girl mythos. Acapulco's main difference is that it cranks up the heat — like literally, it's hot out, so Mexican Nate and Serena can have their illicit tryst in warm bodies of water instead of the boring, cold bar at the Sheppard wedding. Thailand is so spot on that while watching, we could identify specific episodes and predict certain storylines. And now we hate ourselves. Kidding, it's a gift being a loyal GG fan.
However, Gossip Girl's Turkey equivalent, Küçük Sırlar (aka "Little Secrets) is effing insane. For one thing, the core of the show seems to revolve around the swimming team, which teaches us that apparently, schools in Turkey are all about that pool life. But it also leaves room for lots of watery girl-on-girl manslaughter. Serena tries to run over one half of Blair (what?) with her car, so Turkish 1/2 Blair slams her own arm into a car door to make it look like the blonde did more damage. Wild.
And there's like a band, maybe?
No Lincoln Hawk, we'll tell you that. Anyway, we sneaked a peek into the scandalous lives of these global Gossip Girl characters, trying to figure out who's who and what's what. Oh, and sorry Little J. No representation for any characters who leave the show three seasons in to become Marilyn Manson. Enjoy our breakdown.
