Demi Burnett Opens Up About Her Sexuality on ‘Bachelor in Paradise’: ‘I Like Who I Like’
Contestant Demi Burnett opened up about her relationship with a woman and her sexuality during the August 5 episode of Bachelor in Paradise. The blonde beauty fell for Kristian Haggerty, the roommate and longtime pal of franchise alum Catherine Agro. Demi revealed during a sitdown with Hannah Brown that she and Kristian dabbled in an unofficial relationship, but she was hoping Paradise would give her the clarity she needs.
“I have kind of been seeing someone, of course, plot twist — it happens to be a woman,” Demi explained to the Alabama beauty. “It’s not something that I need to label so I feel like I don’t have to proclaim, ‘I am gay, I am straight, I am bisexual, I am this.'” The spunky starlet added, “I like who I like. It doesn’t matter who or what you are, it’s the person.”
Hannah was extremely supportive of her friend and said, “You’re a fluid person, you’re not just this one thing. That is totally absolutely, great.” Demi admitted that she and Kristian developed extremely strong feelings for each other. “We really fell like heads over heels for each other,” the reality babe gushed. “She has the warmest energy, she never gets mad. You would love her.”
Despite their amazing connection, Demi confessed that she wasn’t ready to be tied down quite yet. “No exclusivity, nothing like that,” she dished to Hannah. “Experiencing all of the different emotions that I have and getting to know myself better and getting to know what I want more, it’s been really confusing.”
The contestant simply just wants to be certain about her new romance and thought searching for love in Mexico might help her sort her feelings. “It’s this constant, like, indecisiveness in me and I just feel like the only way for me to truly know what I want and how I want to love and who I want to love is if I try out Paradise,” she explained. “Maybe Paradise is what it’s going to take for me to figure it out.”
