Holy moly! Bachelor contestant Demi Burnett may seem like a little blonde ray of sunshine (so far), but it turns out that her family has a dark past. Demi’s mom, Tina Jean Jordan, recently got out of prison for a pretty serious crime, and it wasn’t embezzlement like Demi said on the premiere. Read on for Colton Underwood‘s potential future mother-in-law’s criminal history.

Tina was released from federal prison on Nov. 23, 2018, after serving time for conspiracy to commit bank fraud — a felony. Tina was sentenced to 18 months at FMC Carswell prison in Texas on July 24, 2017, but she ended up spending her last six months in a halfway house in San Antonio.

And that’s far from her only run-in with the law! She actually did serve time for embezzlement in 2007 — which is what Demi mentioned. Perhaps she mixed up the charges. And there are plenty of others to choose from, too: violating her probation, committing grand theft, and committing forgery… to name a few. She also filed for bankruptcy in New Mexico in 2000.

Despite her shady past, Demi does still seem to have a relationship with her mother. In the premiere, she gets a call that begins with “this call is from a federal prison,” where she chats with her mother about her release date. “My mom is actually going to get out very soon and the next time I would potentially see her would be with Colton,” she gushed. It seems like Demi is much closer with her father, however. “I live with my dad and my stepmom,” she revealed in her intro video. “My dad always had the proper environment for us so we’ve always been with him.” Hopefully, her mom is also able to get her life together now that she’s out of jail!
