Summertime is basically here, and celebrities with platinum blonde hair are giving us some major hair inspo. To kick off the warmer weather, going lighter is one hair trend you’ll definitely want to try. It seems like almost every star has dipped their strands into the world of platinum at one point or another. Miley Cyrus‘ hair went from an ombré “bronde” lob to a sharp, icy blonde coif. Gwen Stefani‘s platinum blonde has been her iconic look since, well, the beginning of time. Kim Kardashian and Ariana Grande have both recently transformed their luscious brunette locks into stunning, silvery blonde strands. And it seems like everyone from Karlie Kloss to Blac Chyna has put in time as a bright blonde.
Celebrities Who Are Platinum Blonde

For your ultimate moodboard of icy, ash blonde inspiration, we have the best celebrity blonde before and after pictures. With all of these pretty hues, you’ll definitely find one to show to your colorist the next time you’re in the salon. You can rock this look no matter who you are; the important part is getting a shade of blonde that matches your skin tone.
If your skin is on the cooler side, warmer blonde tones can help bring color to your face and enliven your complexion instead of making you look too pale. On the other end, if your skin is warmer, icy and silvery colors will contrast beautifully. Darker skin tones can pull off nearly any look. Instagram models like Bee Melvnin look drop-dead gorgeous with glowing, snow white locks, and stars like Zoë Kravitz stun in softened, platinum hues. Scroll down to see before-and-after pics of celebs rocking platinum blonde hair — and find out how to get the look!

1. Taylor Swift Platinum Blonde
T-Swift took the icy plunge and traded in her delicate, mousy blonde curls for an edgy, platinum bob. We love the wispy beach waves and how healthy and hydrated her 'do looks. To get a look similar to Tay's, use a hydrating mask the night before, then use your NuMe Megastar X Conditioning Straightener to put light waves in your hair. Tousle your strands with your fingers and finish it off with a shine mist or light hold hairspray.

2. Kim Kardashian Silver Blonde
Our girl Kim K. can practically pull off any look. We'd have to agree with her hubby Kanye and say that her silvery blonde look is a fave. According to a tweet from Kim herself, she spent more than 13 hours with her colorist Chris Appleton dyeing her hair. That's a lot of maintenance, and we're not about to plop down for half of our day just for a root touch up. Thankfully, the average time spent going blonde is only about two to three hours.

3. Cara Delevingne White Blonde
While our girl Gwen Stefani has been blonde since the early days of No Doubt, Cara definitely redefined platinum as the "it" color during the era of Instagram. Her bold brows and silver strands make for a daring contrast that we definitely would love to try. To keep your locks as white as hers, opt for a purple shampoo and remember to use a repairing cream or mask to keep your hair healthy.

4. Blac Chyna Platinum Blonde
Whether Dream's mom is rocking a wig or went to the salon for a dye job, she can def pull off a platinum hue. Keep your hair silky soft like Chyna's with a gentle brush and a hydrating oil. If you have plenty of excess oil on your scalp, a dry shampoo will be your knight in shining armor. You won't have to harm your hair by over-washing, but you also won't have to walk down the street feeling greasy.

5. Christina Aguilera Platinum Blonde
This songstress and The Voice coach is another babe who's been platinum forever. You have to dig way back into the archives (2003 to 2004 to be exact) to find her hair in a shade other than platinum. Her stint as a brunette was short-lived, and she's been killing it with those icy tones ever since. Whether she slicks it back into a pony and plays up her soft, dreamy features or curls it and wears a red lip a la Marylin Monroe, she certainly pulls it off.

6. Selena Gomez Warm Platinum Blonde
Obviously, not all blondes are the same, but there's a blonde tone for every person. If you're starting out with super dark hair or you're just not feeling like becoming the whitest of blondes, Sel's warmer blonde hue is the perfect inspo. This shade is still a stark change from her usual espresso brown locks, but the darker roots and lack of silver make it look natural. Use a shine cream or spray to keep your hair from looking parched and overworked — you'll be amazed at the difference!

7. Zoë Kravitz White Blonde
Bombshell actress and model Zoë Kravitz left the dark side for a creamy white blonde. She's rocked this shade in long, gorgeous microbraids and as a spiky pixie cut. If your hair is a thicker consistency or tends to attract frizz, use an anti-humidity spray to get a look as sleek as Zoë's.

8. Jennifer Lawrence Bright Platinum Blonde
It seems J.Law can really rock any color. We loved her stint of platinum and how it softened her features and gave her an airy look. Keep your locks looking as soft and healthy as hers with a silk pillowcase and a nourishing hair oil. This way your hair can heal damage and maintain its color around the clock.

9. Rita Ora Platinum Blonde
The gorg British songstress has always succeeded at pulling off a bright shade of blonde. And we can't help but admire the killer red lip she has going on. Keep your hair protected whether you're at a red carpet event or, you know, drinking margs at the beach, with a leave-in conditioner. A high-quality blow dryer is also key to keeping those strands lustrous and flyaway-free.

What are the best tips for platinum blonde haircare?
Colorist Lucille Javier is one of the masterminds behind the gorgeous platinum blonde heads that come out of the Sally Hershberger Salon in NYC. She specializes in hair painting, concocting both creative hues and stunning platinum shades. So, after bleaching and toning thousands of strands every day, she's certainly an expert when it comes to fixing, maintaining, and going white blonde. She spoke exclusively with Life & Style to dish some tips on taking care of your locks.
Fix a bad color job if you're unhappy after your salon visit. Lucille says, "My first thoughts when someone is unhappy with their color is that the communication between the colorist and client must have been off. I would suggest going in for a detailed consultation before any color. But if things have gone in the wrong direction, ask the colorist to see you again. If they aren't agreeing with you or wanting to compromise, find a new colorist that will listen and take responsibility."
Expect maintaining platinum blonde hair to be a process. "My advice to anyone with the blonde ambition is know it will take some time and dedication. It's not a hair trend for the lazy. It takes time and energy to maintain a healthy blonde. This process stresses the natural hair and it needs TLC. So, from the moment you shampoo be gentle. Delicately pat dry your hair with a towel and use a wide tooth comb. Always use leave-in conditioner and oil to protect the hair from further damage," she says.
Don't over-wash your hair. Whether you're someone who already skips a few days of washing your hair or you're a chronic everyday washer, going platinum means cutting back your hair washing regardless. Try to wash only three times a week, and be sure to use hair masks, perfectors, and protectants to keep your strands healthy. Washing your hair too much can result in breakage, faded color, and limp, unhealthy locks.

1. Best Hydrating Mask for Blondes
There's a myth that it's next to impossible for blondes (and those who dye their hair in general) to have soft hair. Let's axe that, because one, that's far from the truth, and two, this Moroccanoil Intense Hydrating Mask will maintain that silky softness year-round. While dyeing your hair certainly can be damaging and drying, keeping a moisture-boosting and retaining product like this in your hair care arsenal is a smart defense against that.

2. Best Hair Straightener
Let's throw it back to the days of over-straightening, crimping, and wanding our locks. We can still hear our hair sizzling (screaming?). Using hot tools on your hair never seems to be associated with the words nourishing or conditioning. But what if we told you that there was a straightener that actually benefitted your strands? You might wonder what other lies you've been told your whole life and what kind of sorcery created this product. The answer to the latter is NUME. Its Megastar X Conditioning Hair Straightener is made with tourmaline ceramic to reduce breakage caused by friction, and its infrared heat strip helps protect your hair's cuticles over time. On top of that, it boosts shine, banishes frizz, and maintains moisture. Oh, and it’s rose gold. How can you not “Add to Cart?”

3. Best Scalp and Hair Treatment for Blonde Hair
A lot of products focus on your strands and the roots of your hair. But your scalp definitely needs some lovin' too. Constant exposure to bleach and dye is not only harsh to your hair, but the skin covering the top of your head. You can keep your noggin healthy and happy with a treatment like this Reverie Cake Restorative Scalp Tonic. It already sounds delicious, but the good it does for your hair is the sweetest part of all. Its plant-based stem cells help prevent your hair follicles from aging, and the essential oils included in the serum, like frankincense, patchouli, and rosemary, all help hydrate, condition, and moisturize your scalp. Take one pipette and massage it into your scalp. After a few weeks of dedicated use, you'll notice a difference in the overall health and appearance of your hair and scalp.

4. Best Frizz Fighter for Blondes
Nothing kills sexy hair faster than humidity. We've all been there. Your hair is looking bomb AF, happy hour is in 20 minutes, and BAM, you walk outside and all your strands are either frizzy with unmanageable volume or deflated and oily. ORIBE Impermeable Anti-Humidity Spray is the knight in shining armor you need. It strikes the perfect balance of thick voluminous texture and controlled sleek shine. Your texture and style will stay put from the second you order that Mai Tai until you're back home and through the door. Your friends will think you're some kind of cosmetic miracle worker.

5. Best Purple Shampoo for Platinum Blonde Hair
"WHY IS THERE YELLOW IN MY HAIR!?" is quite literally a line from a horror movie for platinum blondes. While your color fades and begins growing out, it's easier for yellow tints to creep into your silvery white strands. A bottle of purple shampoo will be quick to destroy that, don't you worry. For a color that's as fabulous as Miley Cyrus' hair or a hue that's comparable to Gwen Stefani's hair, Matrix Total Results So Silver Shampoo will be your go-to in the shower. Its purple color counteracts any brassiness that you really don't want to be there.

6. Best Damaged Hair Repair for Blondes
Every blonde has heard this lecture from his or her colorist. Use Olaplex. Mask with Olaplex. Eat, breathe, live Olaplex. But with how effective this hair repairer is, we can’t blame them. It’s not a mask and it’s not a conditioner, but rather a hair “perfector” that helps fix the cuticle from the inside out. Every time the blonde Kim Kardashian reappears, people often wonder how she got her tresses that light that fast (hello, hair falling out???). According to Kim's tweet mentioned earlier, it takes 13 hours for her and her colorist Chris Appleton to get her there. So while the usually three to five hours it takes to go platinum seems long, at least you're not a Kardashian in this instance. Chris is also an ambassador for Olaplex and no doubt has Kim use Olaplex Hair Perfector No. 3 Repairing Treatment to keep her hair from… well, literally dying.

7. Best Silk Pillowcase
What does a pillowcase have to do with maintaining a perfect platinum blonde? A lot actually. Whether you toss and turn, sleep like a log, or starfish, your sleeping habits can affect the condition of your hair. Unfortunately, popular sheet materials like polyester and cotton can cause major friction, which in turn damages our hair. A silk pillowcase like this butter soft one from slip, will be giving you lovely dreams and lovely hair. The material allows your hair and skin to glide effortlessly across without snagging or rubbing. Even better, the best silk pillowcases for wrinkles help with the anti-aging routine for your skin, too.

8. Best Oil Treatment for Blondes
For shiny, icy blonde locks that Game of Thrones' Daenerys Targaryen would envy, it's important to ensure your hair is getting what it needs. Moroccanoil Treatment is like a multivitamin your hair can take. It's loaded with plenty of antioxidants, essential fatty acids, and vitamin E. Apply two pumps to clean, towel-dried hair and coat your strands evenly, from mid-length to ends. If your hair is really dry and lacking luster, apply to your roots, too. Use this product a couple times a week for best results.

9. Best Hair Oil for Platinum Blonde
You've got your treatments on lock, but what about an everyday oil? Style your hair with Shu Uemura's buttery soft Essence Absolue Nourishing Protective Oil. It moisturizes the cuticle of each strand and boosts shine. You can use it in a variety of ways, either as a styling product, a conditioner, a pre-shampoo treatment, or as a leave-on overnight mask. A pump or two from this bottle also offers all-day UV protection for your head, which is one of the best ways to keep that platinum healthy and bright.

10. Best Leave-In Conditioner
Your hair is already bleached, so letting the sun bleach it probably isn't the best idea. But at the same time, cutting back on beach trips and vacation time this summer isn't an option. A product like this Sun Bum 3-In-1 Leave-In Conditioner will help keep your hair safe from the elements, and it smells way too good for something that's not edible. This spray is safe to use on color treated hair (duh), and uses coconut and sunflower seed oil to detangle, add shine, and protect. It's free of junk like parabens, alcohol, and silicone, so you know you'll be giving your locks the best of the best.

11. Best Hair Dryer for Blondes
Sometimes heat is inevitable, and if you're the type who loves a fabulous blowout, a high-quality hair dryer is the way to go. For hair that looks fresh out of the salon, the T3 Micro Cura Luxe Hair Dryer should be in your hair care arsenal. This tool has come a long way from the damaging driers of the past, and utilizes negative ions to combat frizz and smooth out your cuticle. It produces less noise and dries your hair faster than the ancient tool cooped up in your bathroom drawer. We also love the pause sensors that cut the power temporarily and allow you to set your dryer down to style and brush.

12. Best Shine Cream for Blondes
My fellow, fine-haired friends, I know the idea of using a shine cream sounds like a grease pan nightmare. But once you go platinum, the fine texture gets a little rougher, and you'll be surprised how well your hair reacts to oils, creams, and masks. R + Co High Dive Moisture and Shine Créme will cannonball your hair into a shiny, voluminous mane. It replenishes moisture, boosts shine, fights frizz, and doubles as a leave-in conditioner if needed.

13. Best UV Protectant Spray for Blondes
Again, shine mist might sound scary for any fine-haired babes, but a UV protectant shine spray will give you beach goddess locks. Jojoba, lemongrass, and safflower oils come together in Good Hair Days' Sunshiny Shine Mist Hair Protector to nourish your hair and give it a protective coating without weighing it down. Throw on that swimsuit and you'll be flouncing across the sand like the bombshells in Baywatch with hair to boot.

14. Best Dry Shampoo for Platinum Blonde Hair
Over-washing your hair is a death sentence for peroxide blondes. Not only does it fade the dye faster, but it harms your strands too. Unfortunately, with summer comes a lot of sweat and humidity, so how do you keep the grease at bay? Two words: Dry. Shampoo. Batiste's dry shampoo has a killer formula that wipes out any signs of excess oil and pumps up the volume of two, three, and even four-day hair. Spray about six inches from the roots and on any extra oily spots, then massage it around. After a minute or two, your hair will be revived and your summer plans can continue stress-free. For an added bonus blonde hack: The white color of the dry shampoo actually makes your platinum look whiter and brighter.

15. Best Hair Brush for Blondes
If you know, you know. Platinum blonde comes with quite a bit of unwanted tangles and knots. It may make you feel like yanking until your hair is straightened out. The Tangle Teezer makes working through these kinks much easier, and won't pull or damage your hair. Its bristles glide through matted messes and are designed to avoid breakage. You'll love how the ergonomic handle fits perfectly in the palm of your hand and the selection of two-toned colors add a bit of excitement to your hair care collection (we're looking at you, minimalist bloggers).

3 Easy Summer Hairstyles for Platinum Blonde Hair
Celebrity hairstylist Jessica Hoffman Shakir, who's worked with the likes of stars like Carrie Keegan and Karlie Kloss, also spoke exclusively with Life & Style to give us some of the best easy summer hairstyles to rock when the heat really kicks in. With the sun, sand, saltwater, and chlorine that come along with summer, you definitely don't want to damage your hair further. To keep it safe and stylish, try these three looks!
1. Top Knot With Bobby Pin Art
"Add a splash of summer to the classic, quick and easy top knot by using bright colored bobby pins in various shapes! You can create a V-shape on the back of your head, an X-shape on the side…be creative! This fresh and fun trend is a life saver because it also doubles as the perfect way to keep all your layers and baby hairs off of your neck during those hot summer days we’ve been praying for!" Shakir also suggests buying an organizer to keep your bobby pins organized and grouped by color. She also recommended painting bobby pins you already have for a cheap, fun DIY project.

2. Ponytail With a Fishtail Braid Peek
"Pull your hair back into a sleek ponytail, secure with a rubber band, and set it with Oribe Imperméable Anti-Humidity Spray for a frizz-free finish! Dress up the usual ponytail by adding a fishtail braid to the pony! The twist is, you only want a peek of a fishtail braid, so don’t go all the way to the bottom, instead just braid a couple of inches and finish it off with a rubber band. The end result is a super-cool looking summer 'do that keeps you feeling super cool, too!"

3. Soft Up-Do With Face-Framing Strands
"First spray your hair with a heat-protecting spray — I use the Watch Me Work by NUME! Then use the NuMe Megastar X to quickly smooth out the top pieces of your hair. The large plates on the Megastar X allow more hair to pass through, shortening your flat iron time and the Negative Ion Conditioning Technology combats frizz by sealing the cuticle of your hair, so this is a great way to start a style you want to last throughout a hot summer day!" Shakir says.
"Next, pull your hair back into a soft ponytail per usual, but on the last wrap, you only want to pull your pony halfway through, leaving an inch or two of hair on the other side of the rubber band. I love to add a handkerchief-sized scarf to tie around the looped ponytail and remember to pull a few face-framing strands of hair out to finish this sexy, summer-ready do!"
