Deaf Singer Mandy Harvey Brings Audience to Tears With Her Incredible Singing Voice on ‘America’s Got Talent’
That’s what determination sounds like!
Mandy Harvey tugged at the heartstring of millions of viewers last night on America’s Got Talent with her incredible performance and heartbreaking story. Even though she revealed that she is deaf, the St. Cloud, FL native showed off her gorgeous singing voice for the AGT judges.
The 29-year-old took the stage as her interpreter stood next to the judges, translating what they were saying into sign language. She explained that she lost all of her hearing when she was 18 years old because of a connective tissue disorder and her nerves deteriorated after she got sick.

Mandy was a singer ever since she was four years old, but she took a break from her passion after she lost her hearing. But she still continues to sing today using muscle memory, visual tuners, and trusting in her own pitch. Judge Howie Mandel pointed out that Mandy was standing on stage with her shoes off, and she explained that the vibration from the floor helps her feel the beat of the music.
She performed a song that she wrote herself, called “Try.”
“After I lost my hearing, I gave up,” Mandy admitted. “But I want to do more with my life than just give up.”

She invited a keyboardist and a bassist out on stage with her and she performed “Try” — a song that she wrote herself — on a ukulele. Her voice brought many membersin the audience to tears — and she even earned a standing ovation from the crowd and Howie, Simon Cowell, Mel B, and Heidi Klum.
After her performance, Simon hit the golden buzzer — which each judge only gets one chance to use once each season — and that means Mandy will be able to wow audiences with her voice again at the semi-finals.
Congrats, Mandy!
