Lady Gaga‘s performance of “Til It Happens to You” at the Oscars changed more than a few lives on Sunday night.

It gave actress Jaime King the strength to speak out about her own sexual abuse in a series of Twitter and Instagram posts:

Posting a photo of herself as a teenager, the 36-year-old gave shout-outs to Gaga, Taylor Swift, Lena Dunham and husband Kyle Newman — among others — who’ve helped her work through her traumatic past.

“SURVIVOR – Thank you @kyle_newman for loving me whole | My children | @lenadunham for her relentless bravery that always leads my Spirit to stand up,” she wrote. “TS I love you for being there no matter what.”

The mother-of-two explained the abuse began at age 12, and that Gaga’s fierce commitment to helping victims convinced her to share her story.

“Thank you for the switch that went off inside finally when I realized my silence said I cannot help nor change and that is not who I am. I love you all very much for creating a safe space,” she wrote.

Bachelor in Paradise alum Jade Roper also credited Gaga for inspiring her to talk openly about her rape as a teenager. “This happened to me and it matters. I matter. And I am worthy of love,” the 29-year-old wrote in a blog post.
