The new season of Catfish premieres tonight — but fans are still talking about the Katy Perry storyline from last year.

Nev Schulman, the mastermind behind the popular MTV series, and his partner Max _____, were approached by Tenessee native Spencer who claimed to be dating the "Firework singer" for nearly a decade.

"I think this is going to be your best episode ever," he tells the guys when they talk for the first time over Skype. "I've been talking to her for six years, just the millions and millions of details, little stories of when she's growing up that only Katy would know."

He continued, "Katy got to the point of wanting to go all-in with me, but then she quickly killed that idea two weeks after that. I would like to be face-to-face and see if there is a future here."

After a little digging, Nev and Max granted his wish and tracked down "Katy" who lived in the UK. Turns out Spencer was not talking to the famous pop star (surprise!) but instead a girl named Harriet.

The real Katy responded to the crazy episode and sent out condolences to the catfish victim.

"My heart goes out to him, actually,” Perry said on "Morning Mashup" “Anybody who’s been fooled like that … people have dreams and people live in different parts of the world where not everything is always so accessible. We live on the coasts and we get stuff in a way that some other people don’t get, and I feel bad for him. So I didn’t really like to indulge in that because my heart, like, would die.”

Poor Spencer — but we can't wait to see more drama on the new season of Catfish!
