Ladies, take note! Meghan Markle is a Duchess, philanthropist, and former actress, but she’s also a fashion maven who has proven to be quite a little genius when it comes to nifty style hacks. So, when royal fans began to notice that Meghan often wears her shoes (namely, high heels) too big they realized there had to be an amazing explanation.

According to the UK’s The Sun newspaper, the reason for the 36-year-old’s heel hack is super smart but very simple — Meghan wearing her shoes too big helps avoid painful blisters from forming. “Celebs often go a size up, or even two, in the shoe department when they’re at an event or on the red carpet and it’s for one reason we can all relate to — to avoid blisters,” fashion expert Harriet Davey revealed.

“There’s nothing worse than uncomfortable shoes (we’ve all been there on a night out) and when celebs like Meghan are wearing heels for a long period of time their feet can often swell up,” Davey contiued. “The swelling can cause blisters and in the long run bunions — like long-time heel fan Victoria Beckham has been rumored to suffer with.”

But, if Meghan’s shoes are always too big, how does she easily walk in them? “A trick of the trade is to stuff the toe with padding like tissue or cotton wool, and this can be taken out once they feel like they need a bit more room in their shoes,” Davey explained.

Meghan most recently sported shoes that were noticeably too big while attending Royal Ascot with husband Prince Harry and Queen Elizabeth on June 19. Prior to that outing, the Duchess wore a pair of sized-up copper velvet pumps while visiting Northern Ireland with Harry in late March and famously donned loose-fitting, strappy, nude Aquazzura heels during her engagement photos in November 2017.
