Lea DeLaria, best known as Big Boo from hit series 'Orange Is the New Black', was looking considerably slimmer at a New York event this week.
The star's appearance has changed drastically since she filmed season two of the acclaimed Netflix show. In fact, the actress and LGBT activist has lost 50 POUNDS. And only since last September!
An incredible transformation to be sure, but Lea doesn't credit any fad diets or workout regimes. When asked for her secret, she told 'People Magazine': "What you need to do is, first contract diabetes. Two, take the medication that they give you for diabetes."
"I lost 50 lbs. since September. I lost 25 lbs. since [February] – it's crazy!"
In the year prior to her diabetes diagnosis, Lea admits she felt "really weird" and had seemed to have lost her usual energy. The discomfort she felt during that time made the diagnosis come as a relief. Now, the actress says, she feels "great!"
However, the diagnosis also came with a loss of appetite and the restriction of her diet, which explains the dramatic weight loss.

While she is happy to have her energy back she feels better than ever, Lea actually isn't so fussed about the weight loss, saying this was all a byproduct of taking care of her diabetes.
"I hate that. When I lecture at universities I always say, 'Look, I got laid just as much as I did when I was 50 lbs. heavier than I am right now.' So, frankly, you're beautiful no matter what your size is."
