Ryan Gosling Gushes About Eva Mendes at the 2017 Golden Globes — “Sweetheart, Thank You!”

Ryan Gosling did not bring Eva Mendes to the 2017 Golden Globes, but the actor made sure to thank his partner during his touching acceptance speech.

The 35-year-old won best actor in a comedy/musical for his performance in La La Land, and gushed about Eva, 42, whom he reportedly secretly married this past September.

“You don’t get to be up here without standing on the shoulders of a mountain of people and there’s no time to thank everyone, I just would like to try to thank one person properly and say that while I was singing and dancing and playing piano and having one of the best experiences I’ve ever had on a film, my lady was raising our daughter, pregnant with our second and trying to help her brother fight his battle with cancer,” he said on stage. “If she hadn’t taken all that on so that I could have this experience, it would surely be someone else up here other than me today. So, sweetheart, thank you.”

He also took the time to thank the couple’s daughter, Esmeralda, 2, and 8-month-old Amada before dedicated his award to Eva’s late brother.

“To my daughters, Amada and Esmeralda, I love you. And if I may, I would like to dedicate this to the memory of her brother Juan Carlos Mendes. Thank you very much to the HFPA, goodnight.”

Eva’s brother sadly passed away at the age of 53 in April, after a long battle with throat cancer.

The super private couple rarely makes public appearances, so it was no surprise Ryan hit the red carpet solo. However, he has opened up about his love for his co-star turned wife.

“You hear what it’s like to have kids, and all the clichés are true. I felt I knew that everything would be different, but until you experience that, there’s no way to really know what people mean,” he told GQ. ” … And in my situation, Eva’s the dream mother, and they’re dream babies, and it’s like a dream that I’m having right now. I’m dreaming it all. So I feel so lucky.”

He continued, “There was nothing kind of premeditated about it, you know. It just suddenly was: My life had changed. And thank God it did.”
