Scary makeup looks are no longer just reserved for Halloween. Nope, these days, makeup artists are rocking terrifying trends all year round. And, to be honest, they're kind of freaking us out. We already knew based on everyone's contour and lip-lining skills that beauty bloggers are basically already wizards. Like, it takes legit magic to get your winged eyeliner not just straight but actually even on both sides. But making your whole head seem like it just disappeared right off your shoulders? Well, that's dark magic — not to mention total nightmare fuel.

But as beauty gurus on Instagram have perfected their cut crease and painting techniques, they've branched out into some new territory. And their explorations can get pretty creepy. Want to see what we mean? Check out the gallery below to see all the makeup trends that legit haunt us.

Bug Makeup

From far away, these looks are kind of gorgeous, if a bit bizarre. But take a closer look and you'll see that, yep, those are actual bugs. @butterflyjasmine49 uses real insects in some of her styles, and all we have to say to that is, well, at least they're not alive. But can you imagine? We don't want meal worms anywhere near our faces, let alone on our eyes. And that millipede? Yeah, she found it on the ground before she repurposed it as an eyebrow. BRB, we think we need a minute.

Extra Features Makeup

It's cool, all those eyes aren't making us feel kind of queasy or anything. We definitely aren't bothered by how lifelike they look all up and down the sides of @mimles' face. Except, yeah, we're kind of freaked! The one that really gets us is the left, where she's got like two faces as if her computer has glitched during a Skype session and she's got one image of her face superimposed over the rest.

Bloody Makeup

The worst part is, this isn't even that bloody. If their whole faces were drenched in red, we'd be like, eh, whatever. But the fact that they're small cuts that look so realistic makes us want to lay down with a cold compress. @elliotjosephrentz's sliced eye actually makes us nauseous. Like, we're having phantom pains. And @mimles' bloody lip isn't much better.

Distorted Face Makeup

Yeah, the distorted trend is straight out of our nightmares. We couldn't have imagined something this legit horrifying if we tried, but @lexusmperezz and @mimles are out here as if the matrix is falling apart.

Bratz Doll Makeup

Some people think that this look is cute, and maybe it is on a doll, but on a human person's face, bratz doll makeup is just scary AF. Like, where are their real eyes? What happened to their actual features? What kind of sorcery is this? @voodoobarbie and @powerpuffmoniq are defying the laws of nature.

Animal Transformation Makeup

Again, @mimles is just trying to freak us out. Like, that sloth is way too realistic. And @mariamalone1122's hairless sphinx cat is haunting. We don't have anything against the animals themselves — that sloth would actually be super cute if it were really a sloth — but thinking about how they made their own faces fully disappear gives us the shivers.

Celeb Transformations Makeup

People are out here stealing faces for real. @elliotjosephrentz is just casually wearing both Paris Hilton's face and Justin Bieber's face — it is literally the same person transforming themselves into both stars — as if it's nothing. We're just glad that we're not celebrities, but the idea that someone out there could make themselves look just like us, well, we don't even want to think about it.

Melting Face Makeup

Yeah, again @mimles has somehow been spying on our nightmares and translating them into actual makeup looks without any help from Photoshop. We thought we knew what melting makeup looked like, and it was already messy enough, but we never pictured this.

Optical Illusions Makeup

@lexusmperezz's eyes and mouth are just fully gone, and we're prepared to believe that she cut her face off to take this picture. It makes about a million times more sense than how easily she made her features — not to mention the rest of her body — just disappear. @sammylovesfossas sticking her finger right through her cheek to push out a hunk on the other side makes us equally nauseous.
