What Is Champagne-Gate? Hannah Ann Sluss and Kelsey Weier’s ‘Bachelor’ Drama Is Wild!
Champagne-gate will be out of control! Peter Weber‘s Bachelor contestants Hannah Ann Sluss and Kelsey Weier get into some drama over a bottle of champagne during the January 13 episode and it looks wild. The whole situation, which turned out to be a big misunderstanding, leads to a lot of tears.
Kelsey, who was the former Miss Iowa in 2017, brought an expensive bottle of bubbly that she wanted to open with the hunky pilot. “I’m excited to share a bottle of champagne with him that I’ve been saving for a really special moment and I wanted to open it the first night but that unfortunately just didn’t happen. So, I am excited for tonight,” she explained to some of the other contestants in a recent teaser.
However, Hannah Ann and Peter ended up stumbling across the bottle, which had been sweetly set up by the fireplace by Kelsey. “Champagne dress, champagne bottle,” the brunette model quipped to the leading man before they sat down to enjoy it.
As Kelsey is dishing on the adorable moment she has planned with the pilot, the ladies sitting on the couch with her hear the bottle pop. Obviously, after all that anticipation, the former beauty queen was crushed that her gesture was ruined. “That was supposed to be my moment and she took that from me,” she said through tears.
She then goes to confront the two and things get … awkward. Hannah Ann insists that she had no idea the bottle held any significance, but it doesn’t make things any less cringeworthy.
It seems as though the ladies have made their peace with each other because they’ve been cracking jokes about the incident on social media. “Note to future self: Never drink cheap champagne straight from the bottle … #champagnegate #cryingiscool,” Kelsey captioned an Instagram photo of herself holding up a full glass on January 13.
“Champagne queen,” Hannah Ann gushed in the first comment before adding, “[and] you look gorgeous.”
Although some drama is definitely going to bubble over, it will be a nice change of pace from Hannah Brown and Peter’s emotional reunion that fans watched unfold during the finale. Bachelor Nation host Chris Harrison exclusively told Life & Style that he thought their tough conversation needed to happen for the pilot to get his journey to find love back on track.
“It wasn’t like she was trying to do something or he was trying to do something. It was just something that organically happened. Honestly, I think it was good. It was something, clearly, they needed to resolve and get over this hurdle before anybody could move on. I think it was kind of cathartic, to be honest,” he confessed during the California Strong Celebrity Softball Game on January 12.
