Some people go to extreme measures to keep their relationships intact, and one woman from Kodiak Island, Alaska is one of them.
In the new Oxygen series called “My Crazy Love,” waitress Tina recalls the time she faked deafness to meet the man who would eventually become her boyfriend.
While partying at a bar one night, he made his way over to her after they locked eyes. She was dumbfounded and had no idea what to do considering he was the hottest guy she had ever seen in her town.
“It was like slow motion. I didn’t even know what he said to me. And I’m frozen,” she says while the scenario is reenacted on the series. “I look at the guy and I say, ‘I’m deaf.’”
After signing the message to him, Tina says, “He just looks down at me, grabs my shoulder and yells 'My name is Chris.' He turns around to his buddies and says, 'This deaf chick is hot!'"
For nine months, the pair were an item. They even got over the language barrier through texts and body movements — but it was no easy feat.
“If a door slams, you’ve got to not look. If a dog barks, you have to be really careful not to look or anything,” she says. “Cross the street and you have to pretend you can’t hear the horn honking at you.”
The one plus? "In bed, it was a different story. I could be as loud as I wanted."
And there you have it, folks.
