Sophie Turner, Halsey and More Celebs Came to Slay on the 2019 Emmy Awards Red Carpet

Television’s biggest night is here! The 2019 Emmy Awards red carpet brought out tons of A-listers, like Olivia Culpo and Jameela Jamil, for a night of glitz, glamour and fashion.

The September 22 show took place at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles and the competition was stiff among the categories. Despite its controversial series finale episode, Game of Thrones was still favored to take home the award for Outstanding Drama Series (it’s won the category a whopping three times), but other fan favorites like Killing Eve, Ozark, Pose and This Is Us may give it a run for its money.

As for comedy, Veep and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel were two obvious top contenders. This year’s category was an interesting mix with fan favorites like Russian Doll, Schitt’s Creek, Barry and The Good Place also up for the award.

One standout difference about the Emmys this year is that they opted to not have a host — following suit of the Oscars this past February. Charlie Collier, CEO of Fox Entertainment, previously explained the decision by noting that it will give ample time to honor some of the great shows that have come to an end this year. “What’s interesting about this year to me is how many amazing shows we’re saying goodbye to. You’ve got Game of Thrones, our own Empire, Veep and Big Bang Theory,” he said at the Television Critics Association summer press tour on August 7, as reported by Entertainment Tonight. “We will go hostless this year, and I think it will give us more time to honor those shows.”

The decision seems like it was centered around creating an overall better flow for the show, which aired on Fox. Guy Carrington, a producer for the awards, explained that sometimes the focus can shift too much to the host instead of the actors and actresses they are there to honor. “We had a discussion very early about getting into the awards as quickly as possible. You have a host, and it can be a bit hit or miss,” he said during an interview with Variety published on September 5. “It’s a lot of time before you give out the first award, and the awards are what we’re there for. We’re there to celebrate the content and the people who make it. We made a conscious effort to focus on that.”

There are some seriously talented stars nominated this year. Keep scrolling to see the best looks from the red carpet!
