Is he a contender? Derek Peth quickly won over Bachelor Nation when he returned to season 6 of Bachelor in Paradise. ABC hasn’t announced who is going to be the next Bachelor yet, but could Derek be in the mix?

Well, if it was up to social media users, they are very into the 32-year-old handing out roses. One person wrote, “Derek Peth for Bachelor. Calling it now. #BachelorInParadise,” while another echoed, “@BachelorABC if Derek Peth is the next Bachelor, I’m gonna need a chance to walk out of one of those limos to shoot my shot. #ThankYouForYourTime.” A third person chimed in, writing, “Derek Peth is a GEM.”

The Iowa native made a connection with Demi Burnett during his time in Mexico, and he seemed to really like her. However, Demi revealed that her heart was with someone else — a girl back home named Kristian Haggerty. The blonde beauty was nervous to tell Derek that she was queer and previously in a relationship with a girl, but he had no problem with her sexual preference.

Derek was still smitten with the spunky contestant. “Demi — the second she smiled at me, I said, ‘I am in trouble here.’ In the best way. I really like her a lot,” Derek revealed. Demi also agreed that their relationship was very easy and natural. Ultimately, Demi’s love comes to Paradise, so Derek seems to be back on the market, making him the perfect person for the coveted title.

Clearly, Derek is ready for love since he found love on Paradise in the past with ex Taylor Nolan and even proposed to her during the season 4 finale in 2017. Unfortunately, the former flames couldn’t make it work. “I think that she didn’t want to leave Seattle and she wanted to like travel here and travel there and take advantage of some of this [Bachelor Nation] stuff … And I got my job [in New York City], I have my normal week,” the stud admitted about his relationship with Taylor.

The only obstacle in the way is that Hannah Brown’s former contestants Mike Johnson and Peter Weber are frontrunners right now to be the next Bachelor. There’s good news though — Nick Viall changed people’s perspectives after his stint in Paradise, and he was the Bachelor in 2018. By the time ABC announces the next Bachelor star, Mike and Peter may have even found love, giving Derek an even better shot.
