Finally! 2019 Met Gala cochair Harry Styles graced us with his presence on the red carpet — and his head-to-toe Gucci look was to die for. He walked the carpet with friend and Gucci creative director, Alessandro Michele, and the duo made for the perfect Camp team. The subtle lace and mesh detailing paired with the high-waisted trousers created a polished, yet understated Camp look. Plus, that pearl earring! Perfect.

The “Camp: Notes on Fashion” event marks the 25-year-old’s first time at the gala, where he is also one of the four distinguished cochairs for the night, along with Serena WilliamsLady Gaga and Alessandro. Just to clarify, cochairs are different than hosts of the gala — the host committee consists of almost 200 A-Listers who are confirmed attendees for the star-studded event, but the cochairs are selected carefully by the boss herself, British Vogue editor Anna Wintour.

For Harry to be a cochair during his first Met Gala is an unprecedented honor (as well as being the youngest cochair to date), but it is one that is far from unwarranted. Over the last few years, the former One Direction star has become a darling of the fashion industry through his brand loyalty to fashion houses like Saint Laurent, which bled into a years-long courtship with Gucci.

Though he showed his love for the brand on many a red carpet, it wasn’t until 2017 that the fashion house brought Harry on for a campaign of his own. He was the face of the 2018 Men’s Tailoring campaign that year, which featured a whole host of photos of the heartthrob in a local fish and chips shop in England with dogs and an adorable pet chicken. The ads did so well, they brought him back for the 2019 campaign, made to emulate Heaven post-Noah’s Arc and shot on-site at an incredible Italian villa.

Since his reputation proceeds him at this point, the world has naturally been waiting for what he’ll wear for the milestone event — yes, even Anna. “Well, Harry Styles always looks fantastic,” she said of her hopes for his Met Gala look during Vogue‘s most recent Go Ask Anna video published on May 2. “I think that he reminds me so much of a young Mick Jagger, so I think all of us, all of his fans certainly which I count myself as one, are looking forward to something that is daring, fearless, colorful and different. And no doubt it will be Gucci.”

Seems like he more than delivered tonight.
