Mama June Admits That Her Boyfriend Geno Doak Changed Her Mind About Marriage
She’s changing her mind! Mama June has been very open about the fact that she isn’t very big on commitment — even though she was with her ex Sugar Bear for the better part of a decade, they never actually tied the knot — but now she’s rethinking her whole stance on marriage. Now that she’s been with her new man Geno Doak, the Mama June: From Not to Hot star is softening her view and she opened up during a heart to heart with her daughter Lauryn “Pumpkin” Shannon about love, marriage, and why Geno changed her mind.
“I’m really glad I didn’t marry Sugar Bear because that would have been a horrible mistake,” June told Lauryn. “But sometimes, some people come into your life and change your opinions about things that you wouldn’t do. You know I told you I would never want to get married, and since Geno’s came into our life and been here for y’all, and been here for me, it’s made me realize that he’s probably the one I want to spend the rest of my life with.”
Mama June was giving her daughter some really sound advice. Lauryn is only 18 years old and she’s already a mom to a six-month-old baby girl named Ella, whom she shares with her now-husband Josh Efird. Josh had moved into Mama June’s home to live with Lauryn and raise baby Ella as a family while he worked hard to save up money to get a place of their own, but the young couple had been fighting about money issues.
Lauryn told her mom that she was glad she didn’t immediately rush into a shotgun wedding with Josh when they found out they were pregnant, but her mom offered some words of wisdom about how to know when to know if marriage is right for her. “It’s not the fact that I don’t believe in marriage, it’s just you gotta make sure it’s the right one,” she told her daughter. “You gotta have that feeling.”
