Tish Cyrus Reveals Miley Cyrus’ VMAs Performance Was a ‘Last Minute Thing’
Fans were (pleasantly) surprised when Miley Cyrus performed “Slide Away” during the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards on August 26, after she swore off the glitzy awards show. Her mom, Tish Cyrus, revealed that the pop star’s appearance at the VMAs was actually a “last-minute thing.”
“She didn’t change her mind … Something opened up and she came to sing and I’m so excited!” the 52-year-old confessed to ET backstage. After the singer was left off of the initial nominations, she told one fan on Instagram that there was “no f–kin’ way” she’d perform.
Obviously, people were thrilled the former Disney kid made an appearance to debut her new music. Even her new fling Kaitlynn Carter joined her backstage to cheer her on. Despite going through a very public divorce with Liam Hemsworth, the songstress seems ready for a future with The Hills: New Beginnings starlet.
“Miley is shocked and hurt that Liam filed for divorce so quickly,” a source exclusively told In Touch. “While she’s moved on, she expected him to wait so they could both make the decision together. The bottom line is, Liam has had enough of Miley’s attention-seeking ways and wants out.”
While the ladies have stirred up a bit of controversy, a separate source admitted to In Touch that the “Wrecking Ball” artist is “the happiest she’s been in years.” The insider explained, “She’s embracing her sexuality and newfound freedom, and telling pals she can finally be herself without anyone getting in the way … They’re both very sexual, open women who don’t take life too seriously and like to have fun – they’re crazy about each other, and friends say they make a great match.”
As for Kaitlynn’s ex, Brody Jenner, he’s pretty chill about the whole situation and has moved on with model Josie Canseco. “Kaitlynn’s relationship with Miley doesn’t bother Brody in the slightest,” the source noted. “It’s good publicity for him. He’s still friends with [both of them].”
Despite the drama, it was awesome to see Miley take over the stage!
