Selena spoke with Sacramento’s NOW 100.5 radio station in 2016 during a phone-in interview about her connection to the late star. She said, “My dad and mom were huge fans. My name was going to be Priscilla, but my cousin actually took the name when she was born six months before me. They actually loved [Selena’s] music, so they just named me after her.”

But Selena’s relationship with the “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom” singer doesn’t just stop at the name. Not only did they both grow up in Texas, but Selena has paid her respects in different ways throughout her life. She said, “I grew up and I went to her grave. I got to go to her house. It was really crazy. And then when I started working, I remember I got to meet her family and I just got super emotional ’cause it’s so crazy to see how far everything … I don’t know where she’d be right now. It’s nuts.”

Selena Quintanilla was just 24 years old when she was shot and killed by her manager, Yolanda Saldivar — who had been embezzling money from the beauty. With the Queen of Tejano’s death anniversary coming up on March 31, it’s probably not a coincidence that Selena G. was caught wearing the shirt, and even rocking similar gold hoop earrings to her idol.
