Kyle Richards Reveals Reason She Removed ‘Wife’ From Instagram Bio Amid Mauricio Umansky Separation
Kyle Richards and estranged husband Mauricio Umansky’s separation has been a slow burn, but the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star revealed what led her to take “wife” out of her Instagram bio one year after they announced their split.
During the Tuesday, March 4, episode of RHOBH season 14, photos emerged of Mauricio, 54, kissing now ex-girlfriend Nikita Kahn at an airport in Mykonos, Greece. The pictures were published in July 2024 and shocked fans despite Mauricio and Kyle’s year-long separation at the time.
“I don’t want him to feel guilty, because he’s allowed to do what he wants. But it’s also like, why are you being irresponsible? I don’t know,” Kyle, 56, told sister Kathy Hilton during the episode. “I have a lot of mixed feelings, that’s why I’m saying I’m just processing it all.”
Later in the episode, Kyle told Kathy, 65, that she was frustrated that Mauricio hadn’t reached out to her after the photos went viral, especially since their daughters Alexia Umansky, 28, Sophia Umansky, 25, and Portia Umansky, 17, saw and were aware of them. Mauricio also has a close bond with stepdaughter Farrah Aldjufrie, 36, whom Kyle shares with ex-husband Guraish Aldjufrie.
“When people are quiet, that tells you a lot,” Kathy told Kyle, who pulled out her phone and removed “wife” from her Instagram bio.
“I am not going to be sitting here having ‘wife’ on my Instagram bio with him running around with people. Why would I?” the Halloween actress confessed.
During a confessional interview, Kyle admitted that it was difficult to think about taking “’wife’ off [her] bio or [her] married last name, but the picture changed” when Mauricio’s PDA snapshots swirled.
In an attempt to lighten the mood a bit, Kathy jokingly offered to make a few phone calls to find out if the Dancing With the Stars alum tipped off paparazzi for the romantic airport reunion photo. However, Kyle denied the offer.
“He clearly did not orchestrate this, but there are ways of finding out who did,” Kathy joked to Kyle, adding, “One ring-y dingy, two ring-y dingy.”
Before the bombshell photo was sent around Beverly Hills, Kyle and Mauricio maintained an amicable relationship despite living separately. The family patriarch even made a cameo during the earlier episodes of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills season 14.
Fans were in disbelief when news broke that the longest-standing Housewives couple separated in July 2023, 27 years after tying the knot. Kyle and Mauricio initially denied the reports, but admitted to experiencing a “rough year” in their marriage.
Mauricio confirmed their split that October, but the news didn’t feel real until July 2024, when The Agency founder was photographed kissing Nikita.
The following month, a close friend of the couple exclusively told Life & Style that Kyle was “humiliated” by the photos of her ex and his new lover.
“She believed Mauricio was gallivanting in public with this young chippie to show her what she’s missing — but this was the end of their marriage right there,” the insider noted at the time. That said, the source shared that Mauricio didn’t “feel bad about it one bit” because rumors were swirling that Kyle was in a romantic relationship with her BFF Morgan Wade.
“It’s really grinding Mauricio’s gears, seeing Kyle play this are-they-or-aren’t-they lovers guessing game with Morgan to draw attention to herself,” the insider continued to Life & Style. “Meanwhile, the fact is that Mauricio had really hoped their marriage would fall back into place, but he figured he was a sucker letting grass grow under his feet while Kyle took her time making up her damned mind!”
Kyle has denied dating rumors surrounding her and Morgan, 30, though the women still share a close friendship.
Mauricio, for his part, is single again after he and Nikita broke up in December 2024. Weeks after their split, the former house hubby was spotted kissing model Klaudia K in Aspen.
