Will there be a Season 2 of 13 Reasons Why?

The series is adapted from Jay Asher's 2007 novel of the same name. Netflix greenlit it as a miniseries designed to tell a story with each episode. Every reason behind Hannah's death coincides with a specific person, and now it has been confirmed that the series has been renewed for Season 2 — and fans can expect to see new episodes by 2018!

The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Netflix ordered 13 hour-long episodes with show creator Brian Yorkey at the helm, and the new episodes will pick up "in the aftermath of Hannah Baker's death and the start of the characters' complicated journeys toward healing and recovery."

"Hannah's story is still very much not finished," Brian said. "She's an integral part of whatever the next chapter of the story is, and she's very much still at the center of it."

The show has received backlash due to its graphic depiction of teen suicide, but creator Brian Yorkey defended the choice to show Hannah's suicide.

"There's nothing peaceful or beautiful about it [suicide] at all," he said. "It's horrific to endure and it's horrific for the people that a person who commits suicide leaves behind. We wanted to tell that story truthfully."
