A Signature Drink, Fireworks, and More: Inside the Royal Wedding Evening Reception
After the world watched Prince Harry and Meghan Markle exchange vows, the real celebration began! First, the duo attended a lunchtime reception where Elton John performed, but at night, the newly crowned Duke and Duchess of Sussex, as well as 200 of their closest friends and family members, gathered for an exclusive evening reception at Windsor Castle, which was hosted by Prince Charles. Here’s everything we know so far about the party of the century.
Designer attire
The duo changed clothes, with the actress wearing a halter style backless Stella McCartney gown, Aquazurra heels, and the late Princess Diana’s emerald-cut aquamarine ring on her right hand, while her husband rocked a classic tuxedo with a bow tie. The pair rode to the bash in a flashy Jaguar E-Type Concept Zero.
Good eats
For dinner, guests were served an organic three-course meal, which they washed down with cocktails from a “drinks of the world” themed bar, which included a signature drink that consisted of ginger (poking fun at Harry’s famous red locks!) and rum called “When Harry Met Meghan.” At midnight, treats like burgers and cotton candy were handed out.
The A-list guests
Aside from Prince William, Duchess Kate, and the rest of the royal family, attendees included Meghan’s famous pals like Quantico actress Priyanka Chopra and tennis superstar Serena Williams. Other stars included George and Amal Clooney, and actor Idris Elba, who manned the DJ booth for a set, according to the Daily Mail.
The speeches
While a ton of people gave speeches at their lunchtime reception, including Prince Charles and Prince Harry, only a few spoke out at the evening party, including the bride herself, which broke royal tradition. Harry’s Best Man, Prince William, reportedly said a few words and made more than one dirty joke, and Harry’s best friends Tom ‘Skippy’ Inskip and Tom Van Straubenzee also praised the newlyweds.
Dancing the night away
The reception started at 7 p.m. and the Daily Mail reported that the lovebirds chose Whitney Houston’s song “I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)” for their first dance, with house music by DJ Totolee playing for the rest of the bash. At around 11 p.m., the crowd moved outside to watch an eye-catching fireworks display.

The after party
When the night winded down, a small group of guests headed over to Chiltern Firehouse to continue celebrating the bride and groom — and we’re sure more amazing details of the special night are still to come!
