Emily Ratajkowski Responds to Negative Comments About Her Sex Appeal: Women Are ‘More Than Just Their Bodies’
Just because Emily Ratajkowski is one of the most famous models in the world, doesn’t mean she’s exempt from criticism on the internet. In fact, the 28-year-old fashion designer recently admitted that she frequently receives backlash over her sex appeal.
“It is super hard to constantly be dealing with negative comments about how I’m a bimbo and I should keep my mouth shut,” EmRata confessed during the WrapWomen Power Women Breakfast on Tuesday, July 9, in NYC. “That’s exhausting.” One such example took place in October 2018, when Emily got arrested alongside Amy Schumer during the Washington, D.C., protest of Brett Kavanaugh.
“When I was arrested for protesting and all the headlines were about what tank top I wore and the fact that I didn’t wear a bra, proves a point about how important it is that women speak up and they are more than just their bodies because everything is just about that no matter what,” Emily expressed.
“It’s like, ‘How can she have worn this tank top?’ — which, by the way, it’s a 90-degree day in Washington, D.C. — I was wearing jeans, which were really uncomfortable. I wish I had been wearing less,” the Gone Girl actress continued. As relentless as the negative comments can be, Emily has learned to adapt … most of the time, anyway.
As with many A-listers who have large social media followings, she still struggles. “Yeah, I do have a thick skin, but I think it’s really important, because when I talk to young women especially they’re like, ‘How do you do it?’ and I’m like, ‘I don’t know. Sometimes it really sucks,’” Emily explained.
“So, it’s a weird balance of feeling tough ‘yeah I can handle this, I’m fighting the good fight,’ and also just feeling really exhausted about it,’” she added. “There’s always people out there who think I’m full of s–t and have nothing to say because I run a bathing suit company.”
