The weather is heating up which means it’s time to step up your nail game. Essie exclusively dished on the cutest nail trends for 2019 to Life & Style and you’ll definitely want to take notes. Celebrity manicurist Michelle Saunders said the next few months are all about bright colors and standing out.

“If you want to make your summer 2019 mani and pedi memorable, then wear neon, especially if you have not tried these fluorescent hues before!” Michelle encouraged. If you love to stick with nude tones, the nail guru suggested stepping out of your comfort zone this time of year.

Luckily, there are bright hues available in many different colors. Whether orange or pink is your jam, it’s easy to brighten it up for the warmer months. “I’ve seen multi-colored nails, a different color on each one,” Michelle added about what’s trending. “Also, crisp, opaque white nail polish and subtle ‘petite’ nail art in trendy colors like neon.” Things will take a more autumnal tone as the months roll on. She noted, “I also predict towards late summer we will see peach and apricot tones kick-in.”

The manicurist has a very interesting trick for keeping flawless nails. She opts for small pops of color on her fingers instead of a full polish color. “Summer activities can get in the way of perfect chip-free nails,” she explained. “What I like to do is wear a sheer polish on my nails with just a hint of neon — either at the base or somewhere delicately placed on the nail. Then, go for full bright color on my toes.”

Most people are more active in the summer and there are a lot more things that can affect your nails. Michelle advised people to “wear a quality base coat for a good solid foundation.”

That’s not to say your activities have to stop to protect your nails. “Sunscreen, seawater and sand dull out nail polish but a quick topcoat at the end of the day, after a bath or shower, will reignite your manicure,” Michelle offered as a quick fix.

Stay bright this summer!
