See Angelina Jolie, James McAvoy, and the Cast of ‘Wanted’ 10 Years After the Premiere

Can you believe it’s been 10 years since the premiere of Wanted? Since the action film, inspired by a comic book miniseries, debuted audiences still find themselves watching James McAvoy (Wesley) joining The Fraterniy — a team of assassins portrayed by Angelina Jolie, Morgan Freeman, and Common — over and over again. Seriously, one decade later, we’re still not over that plot twist.

At the time, James revealed he was surprised to be cast as an “action hero” (Disclaimer: this was before his breakout roles in Last King of Scotland and Atonement). “Nobody really knew who I was over there [in Hollywood] and I just thought that they were being really brave casting somebody who isn’t usual action hero fodder and thought, ‘Well, they’re trying to do something different,” he told the Times of Malta. He went on to detail how he trained for the role, which included doing stunts for 12 hours a day followed by the gym for 90 minutes.

However, it all payed off because his favorite moment from the movie was when he was taught by Fox (Angelina’s character) to jump onto a moving train and then leap over a bridge. “I had a stunt double of course, who did the dangerous things and makes me look incredibly good… but jumping over the bridge was all me and it was incredibly cool to do,” James added.

As for his infamous kissing scene with Angelina — it was not as pleasant as it seemed on screen. “It was awkward, sweaty and not very nice,” he explained at the time. “There was angst involved in that, as always. It was just another day and the same old stuff as usual. I was thinking, ‘Oh God, I hope she doesn’t think I’m getting off on this,’ and she’s doing the same.” Right…
