New hair, who dis? Singer Demi Lovato took to social media to show off her brand new haircut and we seriously love it! The shorter ‘do makes her look totally mature, cute, and healthier than ever. Yas, girl!

“New hair wassupppp 💇🏻‍♀️🤑👾,” the 26-year-old captioned the cute series of two photos of her new, shorter locks posted to her Instagram on April 12. Not only is she rocking the new look, she’s also rocking a super cute outfit. That two-toned jacket and red sunglasses are totally perfect spring accessories!

She also showed off her new locks during some Brazilian jiu jitsu training. “Flexing with that blue belt #bjj,” she captioned a cute video flaunting her ‘do and her new blue belt. Demi is an avid jiu jitsu fan and frequently lets fans and followers in on her training with cute post-workout selfies.

We were curious about jiu jitsu and why someone like Demi would really take to the practice, so we spoke to BJJ champ Ricky Lundell and he told Life & Style exclusively about how cerebral jiu jitsu actually is. It makes total sense why Demi — out of rehab for six months after an overdose and trying to make positive strides in her life — would want to dive in deep.

“It’s like a human chess game. It’s a game of leverage, it’s a game of body mechanics, it’s a game of intelligence,” Ricky explained. “It’s not just power for power. It’s all leverage and proper conditioning, except you have to use your mind to outwit the other person.”

And it’s all about challenging your willpower — a mainstay in maintaining a life of good habits. “[When] the physical body is very tired and then your emotional side starts to take over and that’s when you start saying ‘I don’t know if I can anymore.’ Well, when those two shut down, that’s when you start to build your willpower, your soul, your spirit,” he explained.

Seems like BJJ and this new ‘do are a good combo. Bring on more selfies, girl!
