Melissa McCarthy Is a Real-Life Superhero in a Pant Suit and Cape at the Oscars
Red carpet queen Melissa McCarthy has done it again at the Oscars. The second-time nominee stepped out on February 24 looking absolutely stunning for the glitzy award show. The movie star has been showing off her impressive weight loss all awards season long and we’ve been excited to see all her looks.
The Hollywood A-lister went for a bolder look than normal with a custom-made Brandon Maxwell ensemble. She wore her hair swept up to bring all the attention to her black-and-white pantsuit that accentuated her slimmer figure. The look was complete with an actual cape and we are living for it.
The star was nominated in the category of Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role for her work in Can You Ever Forgive Me? as Lee Israel. She was previously nominated in 2012 for her character in Bridesmaids for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role.
The 48-year-old was beautiful before and after her weight loss, but confessed that she had been a victim of fat-shaming in the film industry. “I do remember another interview I did for Bridesmaids with somebody who later lost his job for a conversation he had on a bus with someone else,” she said as she recalled a story from 2011 to InStyle. “I won’t mention names, but just think about it. He kept asking, ‘Are you shocked that you actually work in this business at your tremendous size?’ He was like, ‘Oh, your tremendous size, you can actually work?’ I just remember all the blood drained out of me.”
“I thought, ‘With my tremendous size, I could tackle you so quickly,'” the actress continued. “There were two cameras on him, and one was on me, and he went back to that question three or four times, and I just kept talking about the script or how fun Paul Feig was. He was looking around like, ‘She’s crazy.'”
At the time, the other people in the room were mortified by the questions being asked. “When we left, their producer was horrified and said, ‘We’ll never play what he said. I’m so sorry.’ But it happens all the time, to the point where it’s fascinating because they don’t do it to men.”
