Sending a message? Fans think Justin Bieber‘s new song with Chris Brown, “Don’t Check on Me,” is about squashing any ties he has with his ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez. The singer got married to Hailey Baldwin in September 2018 and the lyrics to his new bop sound like he wants to fully focus on that relationship.

“I had some things to say,” the 25-year-old divulged on Instagram to tease his new project on Thursday, June 27. The lyrics send a strong message. At one point in the song, Justin and Chris sing, “If we’re not together, then it’s probably for a reason / Every heartbreak has its season / And it looks like winter for you.” Oh, snap!

Justin Bieber Singing Selena Gomez

Fans have a lot of opinions on the new jam. “We love the shade,” one person wrote. “Feels like this song is dedicated to Selena!!” another follower noted. A jokester added, “Hailey, did you write these lyrics?” Some users begged for people to stop holding onto the exes. “Selenators, stop being obsessed with Justin,” another fan wrote after someone noted that Justin is “always wanting [Selena Gomez]’s attention.”

“Might run across your mind but don’t worry ’bout me, no / My heart is back in one piece, it ain’t skipped a beat, no / Feeling rested up, I ain’t missing sleep, no-oh,” the lyrics of Justin’s verse begin. He continued to explain that he’s not letting things that happened previously affect him today. The verse goes on, “Don’t take it personal if I can’t reply now / I’m distant ’cause I don’t wanna be reached now / Won’t let the ghosts of our past weigh my future down / I’m liberated.”

Selena and Justin dated off-and-on from 2009 to 2014. They seemingly reconciled a few times and were spotted spending time together until late 2017. However, the pop star is clearly ready to move on. The lyrics continued, “Energy’s like a circle, it comes back around / Reciprocated / Don’t shed no more tears / Won’t gain no empathy from me / In the upcoming years / Oh, I don’t need your pity.”

Justin really spilled the tea with this one!
