We bet you didn’t notice this major change in Kim Kardashian‘s appearance at the 2018 Met Gala. The reality star definitely looked different on the red carpet, but it wasn’t until she revealed she was actually wearing contacts that fans noted the color change up.

“I didn’t even realize you were wearing contacts, you looked SO stunning Kim,” one follower wrote on Twiter before another added, “Hold on! U had contacts? Literally thought it was the dark shadow that made your eyes lighter… guess this should be “contact lense gate” lol.” Watch the video above to see Kim’s blink-and-you’ll-miss-it (pun intended) beauty transformation!

Kim made the big beauty announcement on her app and explained why she and makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic decided to lighten her eyes for the biggest night in fashion. “This year at the Met, I wanted my glam to complement my ‘90s-inspired gold Versace dress. We chose honey-colored contacts that weren’t too far off from my natural eye color, just a bit brighter,” she wrote. “We can sometimes achieve this color when I wear a golden eyeliner and the lighting is right, but I wanted to really go for it on the red carpet.”

Was Kim also paying homage to her noticeably absent hubby Kanye West, who rocked blue contacts at the Met Gala two years ago? “He just wanted to have his eyes to be more like a wolf — something that would pop and be more identifiable, something different,” Kanye’s optometrist Mitch Cassel told People at the time. “But he didn’t want it to look too artificial.”

To complete her look, Kim detailed how she used “Albanian” from the KKW x MARIO eyeshadow palette mixed with the KKW x Argenis Crème Eyeshadow Stick in “Dramatico” and used KKW x MARIO Crème Lipstick in “Classic K” on her famous pout. She finished off her glam with a spray of her latest perfume KKW Body and the rest is Met Gala history.
