We’ve long maintained that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s love story has not-so-subtle similarities to classic rom-coms. Commoner falls in love with a handsome royal? It’s a storyline straight out of The Prince and Me! Californian learns the ins and outs of a European monarchy? Paging Mia Thermopolis in The Princess Diaries! It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that Lifetime is quickly pulling together a made-for-TV movie about the duo, which will air ahead of their wedding in May.

Harry & Meghan: The Royal Love Story follows in the footsteps of William & Kate: The Movie, which — despite covering Kate Middleton and Prince William’s relationship from Scotland’s University of St Andrews to London’s Westminster Abbey — was filmed almost entirely in LA. Per The Guardian’s 2011 review, it also featured scenes of London buses driving on the right-hand side of the road.

According to Deadline, the new Lifetime film will follow Harry and Meghan’s romance from the moment they met on a “blind date” (how blind can it be when one of you is fifth in line to the British throne?) through the early stages of their relationship when they were able to keep things low key, to the explosion of media attention — which culminated in an engagement announcement last November. The outlet also reveals that the movie will deal with Meghan’s “life as a divorced American actress,” whatever that means.

Casting details have yet to be announced, which leaves us time to speculate over who will play the lovebirds. Lifetime doesn’t tend to attract A-list stars (though Meghan acted in a handful of movies that were broadcast on its near relation, the Hallmark Channel), but that won’t stop us from hoping Helen Mirren drops by to play Queen Elizabeth. For the groom, how about the lookalike from the infamously awful reality show I Wanna Marry Harry. As for Meghan, well, we think the brunette beauty should come out of retirement for this one!
