Selena Gomez Says Her Album ‘Rare’ Was Impacted by ‘Drastic’ Events in Her Life
A journey. Selena Gomez opened up about the “drastic” life changes that led her to complete her newest album, Rare, which will be released on January 10. The songstress previously confessed that the latest tracklist has been in the works for four years, but the ups and downs of her life kept pulling her in different directions. However, she explained that the positive end of her album — which features songs like “Fun,” “Cut You Off” and “A Sweeter Place” — are more of a reflection of where she is these days.
“Honestly, this album was kind of a nightmare to deal with but in the best way possible,” the 27-year-old dished to Spotify to give fans a behind-the-scenes look at Rare. “I thought that I was so ready. Like, two years ago I thought I was ready. I collected all of these sessions that don’t even — beautiful sessions — that I don’t even remember half of them because it evolved each year.”
She continued, “Something would happen to me and it would be very drastic so that it would take me somewhere else. And then, all of sudden, I found this healing and I saw something bigger than what I thought that I was and I think that also added the whole end of the album.” A lot has happened to the former Disney kid in the past few years. She has battled lupus, underwent a kidney transplant, has been in and out of mental health facilities and her long-time on-again, off-again romance with Justin Bieber ended for good when he married Hailey Baldwin in September 2018. Through all of that, the brunette beauty has found herself and her inner strength … and made some killer music along the way.
These days, the “Lose You to Love Me” artist is feeling good in her own skin. “Selena’s feeling more confident than ever before, and with , [she] has learned not to conform to Hollywood or change herself to fit in,” a source exclusively revealed to Life & Style. “While she loves fashion and getting dressed up, she’s equally as comfortable being seen out wearing no makeup.”
The source gushed, “She’s super excited about dropping her new comeback album … It’s taken quite a while to complete because she wanted it to be perfect but is really happy with the outcome. She’s also in talks about touring and producing more TV series.”
We think this is definitely going to be Sel’s year!
