Drip, drip, drip in gold! Ariana Grande graced our television screens on Dec. 18 when she appeared on The Tonight Show to belt out the first live performance of her newest bop, “Imagine.” Jimmy Fallon almost fell over with excitement because the performance was indeed everything. If you’re wondering, “Can Ariana actually hit those ultra high notes towards the end of the song?” The answer is yes and she makes it look easy. Is this what actual angels sound like? Honestly, probably.

Ariana was looking all types of festive during her performance. The “thank u, next” singer rocked an oversized Christmas sweater, thigh-high black boots, and a simple diamond-studded necklace. Of course, she had her signature high ponytail to go along with the look.

The singer definitely matched the moody tune of the song and seemed emotional while she sang “Imagine,” which she previously told fans is about “denial.” Arianators have theorized her newest song is about Mac Miller, but Ari has not confirmed or denied that detail.

Before the song dropped, Ariana shared a drafted tweet on Instagram that gave fans some context. “A lot of this album mourns failed yet important, beautiful relationships in my life (as well as celebrates growth / exploring new independence),” she wrote in the post. “But for those of you asking about ‘imagine’: I would say if ‘thank u next’ = acceptance…’imagine’ = denial. hope that makes sense.”

She continued to explain that the song isn’t about a breakup but more like “pretending it never ended. denial.” Ariana did add, “You may take away something totally different and specific to your life!”

Ariana has had a year full of ups and downs. She’s gone through breakups and tragedy but has also made some seriously successful music. The singer has stayed strong to the public and seems ready for the next chapter of her life.

Hoping for a brighter 2019, Ari. You deserve it!
