Opposites attract? Bachelor Nation star Dean Unglert admitted exclusively to Life & Style that he helped keep girlfriend Caelynn Miller-Keyes grounded after a rocky stint on Bachelor in Paradise during season 6. In her defense, some of the drama had to do with her current boyfriend, but he explained that his previous experiences ended up helping their relationship.

“I think that we both had to deal with our trials and tribulations both together and separately,” the 28-year-old explained during KIIS FM’s iHeartRadio Jingle Ball Presented By Capital One on December 6. “You know, she had kind of got put through the wringer with her experience on the show. I’ve been through the wringer in the past and so this time, I was able to kind of like ground her and make her realize that everything’s gonna be OK.”

The former contestant from Colton Underwood‘s season received some backlash from fans during her journey to find love in Mexico. At the beginning of the season, Caelynn, 24, revealed that she and Blake Horstmann had sex at Stagecoach Music before appearing on the reality show. The former beauty queen had sour feelings because he ended up hooking up with Kristina Schulman the next day. In addition, he had flown to Alabama to visit Hannah Godwin, and Tayshia Adams also received a DM or two from the stud. All the drama unfolding on-screen led Blake to leak alleged text messages between him and Caelynn in an attempt to clear his reputation.

When the dust from that settled, Caelynn fell head-over-heels for Dean when he arrived in Paradise. Things seemed to be going well but he dumped her out of the blue because he couldn’t see a future with her. She picked up the pieces and started moving on with Connor Saeli … until Dean returned to the beach and asked for a second chance. The two ended up leaving the show together in his van.

As for Dean, he first appeared on Rachel Lindsay‘s season of The Bachelorette. However, fans felt salty after he fell into a love triangle with Kristina and Danielle Lombard during season 4. He’s gotten his fair share of hate but has also gained new perspective.

“You do get kind of put through a pressure cooker coming out of the Bachelor franchise, especially … the marriage timelines, everything gets condensed,” he noted. “So, I have the luxury of having been through so many times I can kind of like help put things into perspective for her. She’s kind of like she’s like the newer crop of contestants so she kind of keeps things exciting as well you know?”

Time will tell what the future holds for Dean and Caelynn!
