Yes, Clay and Angela have a history together, but they don’t get back together in Paradise. Her arrival definitely shakes up Nicole, but show veteran decides to play the field instead of double-dipping into her past.

“It was honestly one of the hardest nights of my life. I never wanted to hurt you and that was the last thing I wanted. I never did,” the football player told Angela at the wedding. “I know coming here maybe was selfish and I’m sorry.” The brunette beauty surprisingly revealed that Clay told her he “needed to be alone” when he ended things.

However, they intend to leave the past in the past. According to Reality Steve, Angela ends up going on a date with Chase McNary, a contestant from JoJo Fletcher‘s season, and Mike Johnson. Luckily, she hits is off with one of the Bachelor Nation studs because she gives her rose to Chase during the next elimination ceremony.

As for Clay and Nicole, they are one of the most solid couples on the beach. Although they will exchange roses for the rest of the season, the Miami native ends things with the football player after overnight dates because he won’t drop the L-bomb.

Clay not wanting to verbally commit isn’t super surprising considering he admitted that he never told Angela he loved her during the entirety of their relationship. “In my whole last relationship, I never said I love you,” he explained to Nicole during the August 6 episode. “I never said it, no. I care about her a lot and stuff. But I mean, to me, that is a really strong word. If I love you, you’re my wife.”

He revealed more candid details about his former relationship during the same episode. “I am going to be honest. Sometimes it’s hard, but I think it’s better than staying in something you don’t think is going to work in the long run,” he divulged. “I am 100 percent over it. If I wasn’t over it, I wouldn’t be here.”

It looks like this won’t be turning into another awkward love triangle. Whew!
