27 looks good on you! Selena Gomez celebrated her birthday on July 22 with a luxe trip to Rome, Italy. The starlet stepped out looking like a true goddess in an airy green maxi dress without a bra. She’s been keeping a very low profile lately so it’s great to see that the “Bad Liar” singer was absolutely glowing and enjoying her vacation. The former Disney kid has seemingly been using her time to focus on friends, important political issues, her partnership with Puma and enjoying life. Keep scrolling to see photos.
After years of struggling with her mental health, a source exclusively dished to Life & Style that the pop star is “focusing on the positive.” We would say a lovely trip to Europe is a great place to start!
Selena has a knack for making things look effortless. However, this was one of the toughest battles of her life. “It hasn’t been easy,” the source noted. “And she still sees a therapist regularly, but she’s managed to overcome many of her obstacles. She never wants to be in such a dark place again.”
Luckily, Selena has tons of close friends to lean on, including Taylor Swift. “If Selena is upset, Taylor’s the first person she calls,” a second source revealed to Life & Style, while an additional insider said, “They’ve been through so much together and nothing will ever get in the way of their friendship.”
“I think that I needed a moment to myself because I do feel like I was growing and changing,” Selena confessed. She’s been in the spotlight since being cast as Alex Russo on Wizards of Waverly Place as a young teen so it’s no wonder that it got to be a little overwhelming.
“I am a believer of therapy,” Selena divulged while refecting on advice she’d go back and give her teenage self. “So, I think that I have had opportunities where I kinda reflect on the younger me, and I think that a lot of the times I wished that I could hug my younger self. I wish I could have done and experienced a lot of things, maybe, a little differently.”
That’s not to say that Selena is fully retiring from the spotlight. “I’m looking forward to my album and I’m looking forward to spending time alone,” she said about the upcoming year. “I think I’m finally, finally, finally at the age where I love being alone.”
The songbird is hoping her music gives people a window into who she truly is. “I don’t really think that people know my heart,” the “Wolves” singer confessed. “I think that sometimes people may think that I politically say the right thing or I’m safe or I’ve been trained to speak this way. I don’t know how to be trained, like how on earth would somebody be training me to speak things?”
Overall, she’s tired of being misunderstood. “I think that a lot of people don’t understand my heart, you know?” she echoed. “And I also don’t like that, it can be sometimes about appearance too. I don’t really appreciate people judging me on my looks or anything like that.”
The star is on the hunt for someone who likes her for who she is. “I’m flattered when, maybe, guys are like, ‘You’re pretty.’ I am, it’s just not … I would just love someone to love me for the person that I am,” she noted.
