Uh-oh, looks like everything didn’t go exactly to plan! When Kaitlyn Bristowe stepped out at the Emmys last night, she looked absolutely gorgeous. Her black dress had a plunging neckline and beaded straps that were candy-colored bright, and all together it showed off her fun, silly personality while still being glamorous enough for a red carpet event. But while the outfit looked amazing, there was something, well, a little wrong. Namely the fact that the zipper in the back totally split before the ceremony was even over.
Yep, The Bachelorette star’s gown may have met all of its fashion needs, but as for function, well, not so much. During the ceremony, she posted a shot to her Instagram story of the back of her dress now split wide open “right down to mid crack” in Kaitlyn’s words. “Sitting in the emmys and my zipper just busted and my butt is exposed and I can’t get up and I dunno what to do,” she wrote on Twitter, adding, “Here’s the kicker. I’m in the wrong seat and people are asking me to move.”
It wasn’t just embarrassing — it also presented problems of its own, like whether or not to participate in a standing ovation with your butt hanging out. “I either stood for Betty White and showed my ass, or stayed seated and looked like an ass,” she joked on Twitter. Luckily, there was a hero nearby in the audience. The couple that had previously asked her to move out of their seats let her stay, and they even lent a helping hand here and there. “[The man] offers me his jacket every time we have to stand. Chivalry is not dead,” she revealed.
But the night wasn’t saved just yet. Another mishap saw her trying desperately not to expose her tush as she walked through the crowd. “They came and got us and moved us closer to the front, so I had to get up and waddle down in front of everyone, towards the front with my hands clasping my dress… It was an eventful night!” she tweeted. Though making it through the show was something of a struggle, the end of the ceremony brought the perfect solution — a second dress for the after party.
“So quick wardrobe change. I’m not happy about it, but I’m also not mad about it either,” she said in a video, showing off the new dress as she headed out to the Governor’s Ball. Dress number two is black and silver with rhinestones and hanging fringe, and it was just as beautiful — though a little more afterparty appropriate. All in all, it sounds like Kaitlyn had quite the night… and next time, she’ll probably stuff some safety pins in her purse before she heads out.
