Get Motivated to Train Like a ‘Riverdale’ Star With Advice From Celebrity Trainer Alex Fine
The man behind Mark Consuelos, KJ Apa, and Charles Melton‘s toned physiques is here to say the Riverdale cast trains hard to look the way they do. Celebrity trainer Alex Fine sat down exclusively with Life & Style to explain how you can train like one of the regulars at Pop’s Diner.
Alex met Mark when he first moved out to Los Angeles from the Midwest. “I was at a gym in West Hollywood and he was in town for the weekend … We kept in touch. Then, a couple years later, I met Charles [Melton] through a mutual friend and then we became close.” The funny thing is, he didn’t realize they were on the same show until a random Facetime call connected the dots.
Now, the 25-year-old hits the gym with KJ, is running an ultramarathon with Hart Denton (a.k.a Betty’s “brother” Chic) and travels up to Vancouver to train the cast while they’re filming. It’s obvious that they all work hard, and the celeb trainer agrees that the cast is “evenly competitive” when it comes to putting in hours at the gym.
Although Alex is “definitely more of a morning person” while some of the guys prefer working out in the afternoon, their weight training style is similar. If you check out his Instagram, it’s full of boxing, running, planking, and lifting. We’re sore just looking at it.
So, how can you stay motivated as you’re waking up to freezing temperatures before making the trek to your full-time job? It’s all about changing your mindset, according to the athlete. “Anyone in general who’s stuck in the cold, I wouldn’t use it as an excuse. More like, ‘Well, we can’t go outside and play … we might as well go inside and go to the gym.'”
He even admitted that warmer weather makes it more challenging for him to get a workout in. “I have more trouble in Los Angeles or even Florida because there are so many things to do all the time during the day. When you’re stuck in this cold you kinda want to stay inside, so you might as well go to the gym.”
If you’re in need of a little push to get to the gym, he encourages clients to rethink how they spend their day. “A lot of people complain about not having enough time. That can be the easiest excuse in the book. The easy solution is just to wake up one hour earlier.” He added, “It all comes down to self-motivation.”
If your budget doesn’t allow for an A-list trainer like Alex, he assures that making an effort to do something active will pay off. “If you go to the gym and don’t necessarily know what you’re doing, you’re still going to see results over time. More so than just sitting down or not doing anything … Even if you can’t afford a personal trainer, there’s always information online that you can look forward to.”
So how does a trainer stay in shape? Alex says he’s a fan of intermittent fasting. “I won’t eat until 2:00 p.m., then I’ll make a protein shake with Premier Protein 100% Chocolate Whey Powder. Then, at 8:00 p.m., I’ll have a big dinner.” He did note that his diet changes depending on the type of training he’s doing.
When it comes to looking like a Riverdale star, all it takes is a little protein, some self-motivation, and a lot of Alex Fine.
