On Sept. 30, Ariana Grande‘s followers managed to resurface a tweet from the “God is a woman” singer detailing a disturbing encounter she had with her late ex-boyfriend, Mac Miller, and a fan of his back in 2016. Despite the fact that Ari had no connection to her now fiancé, Pete Davidson, at the time, people are beginning to draw some obvious parallels. 

The story began with a young fan following Ariana and Mac back to his car. At first, Ari thought the moment was sweet. However, that quickly changed. “I thought all of this was cute and exciting until he said ‘Ariana is sexy as hell man. I see you. I see you hitting that!’” the 25-year-old wrote. 

Ariana then goes on to explain her outrage at the boy’s statement. “Hitting that? The f–k? This may not seem like a big deal to some of you, but I felt sick and objectified. I was also sitting right there when he said it. I’ve felt quiet and hurt since that moment. Things like [this] happen all the time and are the kinds of moments that contribute to women’s sense of fear and inadequacy. I am not a piece of meat that a man gets to utilize for his pleasure. I’m an adult human being in a relationship with a man who treats me with love and respect.”

The rest of Ariana’s tweet stresses how important it is for women to speak up when they’re uncomfortable. “We are QUEENS,” the pop star concluded her post. While her message is no doubt still applicable two years later, many fans believe that her relationship with Pete goes against the very thing she once stood up for. 

“And now she’s in a relationship with a man who does the exact same thing to her. Hope she’ll realize it soon,” one fan quote tweeted her post — and it has since gone on to garner over 2K retweets and 11k likes. Many believe that the SNL star’s recent comments about switching Ariana’s “birth control with Tic Tacs” and the admission that he “jerked off to her” before they started dating definitely cross the line from comedy to exploitation. Hmmm, maybe Pete should slow it down with the “jokes” about his bride-to-be. After all, Ari has a seriously protective fan base.
